KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — Costly handbags seized during the police’s 1MDB-linked raids in May 2018 had allegedly been “destroyed” due to the use of marker pen directly on their surfaces to label them, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s lawyer claimed today according to local news reports.

Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah reportedly made the accusation when arguing that his client should be allowed to inspect the items seized in the May 2018 raids from Pavilion condominium units that were linked to Najib.

In news reports by New Straits Times (NST) and The Edge, Shafee was reported claiming that the police allegedly had no respect for the seized luxury items when tagging them.

“During the seizure, the police had removed labels my client had kept on all of these items, we need to inspect and certify if these items are correct,” he was quoted saying by The Edge.

“The expensive handbags are all destroyed because the police labelled them with a magic marker. They wrote on the handbags, these are expensive items, the police had no respect,” he added.

Among other things, The Edge reported Shafee as claiming that the police had forcefully entered the apartment without its owner being present, also accusing the police of not properly documenting the seized items.

According to NST, Shafee reportedly claimed that the police’s search list did not properly set out the details of the content of boxes removed from the Pavilion Residences units.

It is very clear that the charges against her will be dropped soon. The new AG aldready dropped charges against the son Riza Aziz and yesterday, the ex-CM of sabah. Next will be the umno president and then...jibby himself.

Really pity our friends across the causeway.

Daim: In Malaysia, when you steal Milo, you go to jail; but when you steal billions of ringgit, you walk away smiling

KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — The anger and discontentment expressed by Malaysians over a recent decision by the Sessions Court to grant Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) for five money-laundering charges is understandable and warranted, said Tun Daim Zainuddin.

The former finance minister, in an interview published by The Malaysian Insight (TMI), asserted the dissatisfaction from the people arose from the inconsistent punishments meted by the courts against those breaking the law.

“The rakyat wants to know why, when you steal Milo you go to jail, but when you steal billions of ringgit, you walk away smiling?

“The rakyat think it is a really good deal for him (Riza).

“He does not have to spend any time behind bars and he is allowed to keep more than RM500 million in stolen money,” Daim was quoted in the report.

The former government adviser also pointed out how the DNAA settlement between Riza Aziz and the government appeared to be more beneficial for the stepson of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, saying the deal appeared lopsided.

“Of course, people are angry. He did not offer any additional repayment — all those properties had already been seized and would have been returned to Malaysia anyway.

“Furthermore, the sum they are bandying about is what those properties are valued at.

“It does not mean that that is the amount they will be auctioned off.

“People would like to know why he is not in jail and why he is allowed to keep more than half of the money he is accused of stealing,” questioned Daim.

What this evidently means is that Goldman Sachs has actually agreed to cough up US$2.5 billion, which is not a huge percentage more than the US$1.75 billion that the previous elected PH government flatly rejected just a few months ago.

To disguise the fact, the Coup Coalition and Goldman Sachs have included the asset recoveries separately achieved by the US Department of Justice to make to announce their ‘total’! Representatives from the DOJ were pressuring conclusion of the talks and this “guarantee” of $1.4 billion from the stolen assets already traced would appear to be their contribution.

In other words this headline figure that has dutifully been picked up by media across the globe is a deliberate misrepresentation and play on words to make it look as if the total paid by Goldman Sachs will be $3.9 billion, when in fact the “total” referred to is the far smaller $2.5 billion they have actually agreed to plus the US$1.4 billion recovered by the DOJ.

Can Jibby strike a deal with Muhyiddin? If can, he'll probably get a slap on the wrist due to some legal technicality.
