PSP415 Supersonic August 31, 2015 Share August 31, 2015 My dream car! Unfortunately, it needs to be kept there, in dreamworld. Best is to have it thoroughly checked at expert BMW workshop. Note costs of wear and tear items cos they dun come cheap. If the dealer you planning to buy from is steady and words more than gold, then can change under lemon law. Direct seller then must ensure price can take big bite off. Good luck! Hope you get your dream car transported out into real world. Safe ride Cheers
Viceroymenthol 6th Gear August 31, 2015 Share August 31, 2015 Been driving a second hand F02 740Li since CNY. This is a great car, everything you need is here: space, comfort, handling, acceleration, etc. I changed to this from an Audi S5 4.2L V8 quattro AWD and initially was disappointed (duh) with the F02. It took some adjustment to fuly appreciate this car. I also used to drive an E65 730i (short wheelbase) and that car felt much more nimble than the F02, but I have since gotten used to it. A tip: switch off DTC and stability control and this car rocks. Even keeping it in "normal" mode. Sport+ mode would be a little too much, it drags on the fuel economy as the programming keeps the revs high on lower gears. Rear suspension are air struts, front ones are normal gas struts. To replace the air struts, there are alternatives to PML if you want a better deal. I have replaced only DME and water pump so far. These are the problems common with the N54/55 turbo engine. Maybe yours, being the NA engine, may not need. Still enjoying it!
Mercury1 Turbocharged August 31, 2015 Share August 31, 2015 Friend's dad had a 745, gave them a couple of issues mainly suspension, mirror electronics. interior roof lining was literally coming off. Never gave any major issues but every car's history is different, would say if you're using it as a daily driver and don't have time to send to workshop then might wanna reconsider. Ps, for that size/class of car I would say the S class is better car to drive around imo. hi guys. been offered a 2nd hand bmw 730 abt 5yr old any advice on the reliability and other stuff i should look out for? thanks in advance!

Viceroymenthol 6th Gear August 31, 2015 Share August 31, 2015 (edited) Friend's dad had a 745, gave them a couple of issues mainly suspension, mirror electronics. interior roof lining was literally coming off. Never gave any major issues but every car's history is different, would say if you're using it as a daily driver and don't have time to send to workshop then might wanna reconsider. Ps, for that size/class of car I would say the S class is better car to drive around imo. 745 is the pre-LCI E65, a hideous beast with the old leaky n.a. V8 powerplant two generations ago that had lots of complaints. Ceased to be relevant a long time ago. The LCI version was called the 750. It looked much better, had an improved V8 engine and had upgraded DME and transmission ECU programming. The F01/02 730 still uses the same 2996cc N52 n.a. inline 6 that was in the post-LCI E65 730 and E60 530. That engine was pretty solid. A smaller version was used in the E60 523, 525 and E90 325. As an engine that had powered an entire generation of BMWs, you can be sure there is plenty of service support for it, as well as a wealth of information online. In any case, suspensions are wear and tear items. Calling them "issues" would be the same as calling brake pad wear and rotor wear "issues". They are consumables and should be treated accordingly. Side folding mirror..ok this one I admit I had an issue on my LCI E65 730i. The motor failed one day after an extremely rainy and damp season. I didn't bother with any repair, just left it unfolded for the rest of my ownership of it. Didn't affect my enjoyment of the car one single bit. Lastly, you drive around in a BMW. You get driven around in a Merc. Edited August 31, 2015 by Viceroymenthol

You can also get a Quattroporte at around the same price. A Maserati. Slightly older though. Hell, throttle2 will even sell you his Carrera 997.1 at the same price. So what is your point? ↡ Advertisement
