The hot question lor, 'Y got engine brake 1'?

All cars have engine brake... it's just the programming in the gear shift that's obvious in this model... no big deal...

I'm fine with it, trying telling that to those who think otherwise.

I think it is just the automatic gear switch from 4th gear to 3rd gear programmed by the car factory... that we feel the drag.

It is actually from 5th to 4th gear.

It is actually from 5th to 4th gear.

The gear was programmed to down shift earlier so that the car can pickup if driver suddenly pressed the accelerator again.

If the gear shift programmed to down shift with delay later ppl complain no pickup.....

Very hard to please everybody... just take it as it is.

Waaa u repeated thrice.

Yes... The silver lining in this "enginebrakegate" is you can quickly rev up the engine and the car gets going.

Wonder why Conti, Japs and Kia never think of this sudden shift @ 50kph engine brake to give power to their cars. Don't their cars also shift down gear when their cars are rolling reducing speed.

if the down shift early is beneficial for easy pick up, why don't hyundai programmed it on each gear stages?

theirs do shift down as well , different is theirs are tune to more "refine" ride.

So to get 5 choke all the way from 6th gear? Lol

Third gear braking caused the choking feeling, causing the post to repeat itself [laugh]

In an automatic car, gear ratios are a balance of smoothness and power.

One drops a gear to get more torque to briskly move the car forward. In a heavy car, coupled with a smaller power output, the engineer has to design some gear ratio which allows the car to move briskly ahead or he can engineer a longer gearing, which is smoother, but the result may be complaints that the gear seems to lack that 'urge'..

Remember the Elantra engine has been sacrificing power over the last few iterations so as to achieve a cleaner output rating. Otherwise it would have been hit with a 10k VES surcharge, and it will no longer be the VFM car that has sold volumes in recent months.

We choose good value and sometimes a small price to pay will be a slightly odd gearing...

So means what? Car is 'tunable'?

It really depends on how the manufacturer select the gear ratios.

For conti, most of the time they have enough power to compensate.

For Kia, people always complain about no power maybe this is the reason?

For Jap, mostly on CVT.
