He has been my go-to workshop for many years. In the early years he was a great help. But lately he has also been giving me a fair bit of grief. And i can see the charges creeping up also, probably to make up for the lost Mark X business. His problem is that he is not improving, he needs to learn how to keep up.

yeah. he caused me much much grief with my markx!! stayed away for a bit and then went back last year to try again. but then the mark up was too much.

Hi bro, the son never work for him already.

So he employed a auntie from the opposite unit which ceased operations.

You don’t go to chin anymore?

Last time I went was October last year - Got my rear shocks changed. Great job as usual. I sold that car in January and got another one - Not due for servicing yet - Probably next month. I did pop by in January to update him though. Will definitely be going back to him for sure - The warranty on the current ride ends in August anyway.

Already given up on this workshop. Call to get a quote for transmission oil change for parts and labour and fix appointment. Price is not cheap. Just normal rate. On arrival, didn't want to honour the rate. Increasing the price by another $90. Ridiculous business ethics. I just went off to another workshop and even paid $30 cheaper than the original agreed price. Should be the end of the road for this type of unsteady business attitude.

Yup. Good decision to go elsewhere.

Which workshop is good for troubleshooting and narrowing down issues for Lexus cars?

I would prefer, in descending importance

1) Hands on

2) Trustworthy

3) Knowledgeable and Competent

4) Passion for his job and reasonable pricing

Hi, I just got my Is250 feb 2020. this july going to be 10 years.

Went to chin last mth for some issue ( Buring smell )

turn out to be engine seal issue. change all engine seal rubber, 8pc for each engine, totla 16 rubble seal . quote me $550..
Understand is going to be alot of dismantle and labour work. so i go ahead with it.

during the work, he notices a part ( Fuel pressure sensor ) got to be change soon. the part got some melting. so i just go ahead and change it. ( say cost 3/400 )
i go ahead as well

he show me my spark plug is still new, no need to do anything.

the only thing spoil, and i didt change is the Hood Bonnet Automatic Bar Hydraulic Strut. Quote 100 plus or 200 , cant really remember.

Over-roll i find he is very knowledge about my car.
And my engine booth is dirty like fxxk, while he doing the work, i try to use wet tissue to clean abit, he ask me dont do. he will help me clean up and wash. and he really did.

and when i collect my car, next day morning, he still do a walk tru with my car, show me which part is good, which part need to take note. and which going to change soon.

this is my experience with his during the 1st visit.

sorry for my lousy english.

if just do normal servicing at Chin, what is the price range i am looking at? can share?

hey gentlemen, following your posts here I went to Chin Auto today to service my Lexus. I was very uncertain as some folks give thumb-up but some others give thumb-down, so I thought just give it a try.

I asked for a normal servicing. He checked the bonnet, lifted it up and checked the chassis, the engine, etc.

He explained to me every point he checked -- what is this, and how to check -- like to an apprentice. Even taught me step-by-step how to change those non-critical parts so no need to come to bother him next time. Very nice and friendly.

Later when he was about the top up the engine oil, I found his own oil isn't the type shown in my car manual. He said LETS GO SHOPPING AND GET THE RIGHT TYPE and took me to a spare part shop in the same building. I found one and he used it.

The whole service took about 2hr and he charged me merely 100 bucks (oil filter, labor, plus some of his own engine oil). I haven't tried other workshop so I can't compare. But I see his good service, and believe the price is quite reasonable. The attitude that he is willing to use my own parts and teach me DIY really impress me! 👍

I am sure I will come back for next servicing.

Someone is going to say yours is a fake post esp when you are a newbie. Maybe you post your receipt and people will believe. You have been warned! 😆
Or say $100 is expensive.

Frankly, he’s the boss and he’s doing the servicing himself. Can’t expect cheap la. It’s not like he talked only then let a Malaysian or ah tiong worker do the servicing, like his previous partner.

I’m a regular of ah chin.

I think the problem is that Chin seems erratic. When he is in a good mood or if you two hit it off, he is the best mechanic in the world. When he is in a bad mood, he is a headache to deal with.

Problem is, as busy working people, who has time and patience to roll the dice and hope to catch Chin on a good day?

Hi Hi,

Getting vibration on my steering wheel of my IS250. Think it is time for engine mount replacement. Please recommend workshop and it will be great if you know the estimated price. Thank you.

Bought Shopee Stamford Castrol 5W-30 4L EO package + 27 points standard checks at 83 bucks + oil filter.

Went to Carousell to buy another 3 litres of Castrol 5W30 EO for 9*3 = 27 bucks my IS250 Uses 6.7 quartz.. Almost 6.5 litres.

Total spent only $100 bucks. Can't find any combo for Full synthetic 5W-30 servicing that is the cheapest other than this in SG.

I also went only to buy Engine Air Filter at 17.50 at Shopee. The OEM oil filter I bought online only cost 4 bucks but my engine air filter is still good so I didn't change. Aircon cabin filter only 4 bucks.
