Survey: Which is the best (claims) Motor Insurance company

Recommended Posts

1. A motor insurance may be cheap, eg. DirectAsia (this is my current plan after I've switched from AAS available insurance plans since 2+ years ago). However, I have recently been told that when it comes to claims, there seems to be fineprints that void certain claims, eg. windscreen.

2. My NCD is 50% discount and I am thinking thrice now about renewing with DirectAsia - because in case I have claims, I don't want to be caught by it's fineprints.

3. This survey is to crowdsource motor insurance claim experiences from fellow forumers who have had at least 1 claim and would appreciate if you can reply by stating these information:

(a) Name of Insurance company (and the motor plan if you recall, if not nevermind)

(b) Give a score of between -10 to +10 (where the extreme -10 is no claim despite your situation being seemingly a valid claim, and +10 if your claim process is a smooth and quick claim with bare minimum fuss)

© Optional: Which year? (if you remember)

(d) Optional: You may also choose to elaborate your score, esp. if it's very negative or very positive - optional.

4. While a few data points may not be reliable, however if we have a lot of data points (eg. 100 people claiming terrible experiences with company XXX, or excellent experiences with AAA, then we know what is more probable).

5. Here we go, this is a list of 44 motor insurance companies listed in one motoring:

  1. 1 Action Garage Pte Ltd
  2. Able Insurance Brokers Pte Ltd

Most on the list are agencies and brokers.

Anyone claim using agency/broker's service? I reckon most will deal directly with the insurer.

Car insurance works like any other insurance. What you pay is what you get. Pay less, less coverage. Pay premium, might or might not be more coverage. LoL...

So take some time to read the fine print.

Have always been with NTUC cuz my dad has always used NTUC. So far all the claims have been easy. They usually give us the lowest quote among all the companies we go to also thats why we still stick with NTUC.

Between 1 to 10, how many points would you give to NTUC?

1. I do not have the complete list, thus am working off the current list from Onemotoring (the 1st list) and also the 2nd list is from one of mycarforum thread.

2. Also, I am unable to edit the original post (editing for posts here seems to be disabled after X no. of hours).

3. Thanks for extending the list though.

4. I think there is still merit in even older company, because someone may have make a claim years ago under that company.

Hmmm... would you know if there is an existing posting in mycarforum that does a mapping on 2015 motor insurance companies, with an indication of what are it's merged or acquired companies?

Thanks.

This thread tells you who are the drivers to avoid.

Depends la... sometimes things like claim windscreen also not really driver's fault ma. I had a deep chip in my windscreen that slowly spread, not sure how it first got chipped.

Anyway, had a good experience with NTUC. Had a case with a taxi driver who inflated his claims for a 50/50 liability case. Big insurers mean their budget is higher too. NTUC used a big name law firm to fight the other insurer, in the end NTUC and the law firm settle swee swee for most parts. Never try to deny their coverage or push blame to the driver of the insured vehicle.

Very good insurance prices for some vehicles too. Even willing to match price of other insurers with extra freebies. Would give them 10/10 based on one t party claim experience on minor incident (paint scratches and dent).

Don't panic if we eventually avoid your insurance agency :-)

Truth be told, insurance claims arise when at least one of the situation is true:

  • Somebody hits your car bad enough to make claims, or
  • You hit somebody's car bad enough for them to make claims, or
  • You accidentally crashed into something and the damage is bad enough to make claims, or
  • Something (other than vehicle) damaged* to make claims.

* Ceiling collapses on Hilton Singapore hotel driveway, at least two sent to hospital

Namaste.

(a) Name of Insurance company- AXA

(b) Give a score of between -10 to +10 = -5

© YEAR 2014

(d) Sent me a non renewal letter even before the claims was settled. Complained to MAS, coz I have purchased NCB 50% protection and if just one accident means non renewal even before claims are settled, AXA with this kind of anti selection under writing should not be allowed to sell NCB protection. In the end, AXA replied that it was a computer mistake and continue to renew my insurance. Claims dragged for over a year not settled, counterparty law firm issue writ of summons, case still pending settlement.
