I have similar issue with P2096, tried changing purge valve but to no avail. Anyone with recently experience that able to resolve this?

Another workshop ask me to change catalytic convertor at $600 or clean the CAT

actual experience may not help because this issue involves too many possibilities, so it will take some time and effort, would mean even money to isolate the source of the problem cause, refer to the post above yours by @ElyasCham.

This is issue with the air-fuel mixture. More air than fuel. I dont think it is an issue with the cat if your car is running on petrol.

Possible faults are from air sensors, air intake or exhaust side. Or parts that is not delivering enough fuel. Like a faulty fuel pump, fuel filter clogged, fuel injectors clogged.

One of the first things you can try on your own is using a fuel system cleaner that you can get from caltex. A bottle mix with about 45L of fuel. And then take a long spirited drive.

See whether the check engine light goes away.
