Nav14 6th Gear January 9, 2016 Share January 9, 2016 (edited) The equivalent of GR 100 for Yokohama is DB 551. I am right now on GR90 which is GR100 predecessor. Prior to this I went through 5 rounds of changes of DB501 which is the precession of DB 551. I regret switching to GR90. As quiet as the Yokohama equivalent with similar handling capabilities but a harder drive. The Yokohama is slightly softer giving a more comfortable ride. Biggest negative for Bridgestone Gr90 is it will last me no more than 40k km ( 2 tyres already worn out now at 33k km despite regular tyre rotation) while the yokohama 501 lasted me 55k km. Based on the assumption that their replacements GR100 and DB 551 should retain the basic attributes, my next tyre change will be 551. I'm not sure Or maybe DB551 perform worse than 501? I don't know... Anyone using 551 now? Any comment?

Bluepica 4th Gear January 11, 2016 Author Share January 11, 2016 Does the shop that does tire alignment throw in tire alignment when you purchase tires from them or it's a separate charges?
Beregond Supersonic January 11, 2016 Share January 11, 2016 Heard the DB series is bad in wet, does it apply to the 551? the previous 501 is famous for very bad in wet, the new 551 never try b4. the gr100 for japan mid size car still reasonable wear, for heavy conti car, I dun think will tahan long like most bro mention . but from many review I read and pass experience, I doubt the 551 will last any longer then gr100.
Nav14 6th Gear January 11, 2016 Share January 11, 2016 Heard the DB series is bad in wet, does it apply to the 551? The 500 was bad in wet but 501 was already a major improvement. I had no issues with 501 in wet . The GR90 is no better than 501 in wet. The Yokohama is more comfortable than Bridgestone and longer lasting. the previous 501 is famous for very bad in wet, the new 551 never try b4. the gr100 for japan mid size car still reasonable wear, for heavy conti car, I dun think will tahan long like most bro mention . but from many review I read and pass experience, I doubt the 551 will last any longer then gr100. Assuming GR100 is not an improved version than Gr90 in longevity, then you are going to get no more than 40k km on it even if rotating tyres every 10k km. I can show you the tyres on my car and the receipt on when I changed them. 40k km lifespan for tyres is pathetic.

Chucky2007 Turbocharged January 11, 2016 Share January 11, 2016 What's the tread wear indicated on the tyre? 200? Think for these soft tyres rotate every 7000km instead of 10000km? And Bluepica, from the tyre pic, u may wanna consider pumping up the tyre pressure by maybe additional 20-30kpa as the side seems to wear more. Pumping additional 10-20% more pressure than the recommended pressure indicated on the door side will help extend tyre wear and bring better FC

Roberttan 5th Gear January 12, 2016 Share January 12, 2016 (edited) is it Truth that GR90 or new GR100 is shorter life than yokohama v series. SO we have to choose you think which suit you best. Generally GR still more comfort and Quiet (little only) better wet grip Edited January 12, 2016 by Roberttan ↡ Advertisement
