SINGAPORE: Police have seized firearms from the Singapore Gun Club and the Singapore Rifle Association due to "serious licensing irregularities," the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 6).

SPF said its Police Licensing and Regulatory Department had found these irregularities while conducting an audit at the armouries of the two clubs on Tuesday. Police investigations are ongoing, it added.

Channel NewsAsia understands that more than 70 guns were unaccounted for. These guns belonged to members who have died, quit the clubs or left Singapore, and no proper records were kept.

The club's auditors are [sleeping] .

SPF must be worried about the weapons falling into the hands of the radicals.

Unaccounted for means the rifles are missing or the rifles are there but dunno where/who the owners??

hmmm ... good point ... report not that clear on this, to me looks like weapons missing, otherwise why the closing of the range to public.

of course the former is "less serious" compared to the latter ....

well, hopefully will see some clarity in the days ahead on this ...

where is armskote man ? [:p]

Actually this rifle range cum club is quite slack in terms of protocol. You know when we are in the army, going to range dealing with live rounds got a lot of protocol to follow like check clear, declare no live rounds or pyrotechnics blah blah, white tape to mark out boundary for collection of rounds.

But this rifle range is the most slack I've seen. All own time own target. Rounds anyhow put, nobody jagah. Anyone can just take 1, put inside his car and drive off just like that. The sentry post is just a storeroom.

About time they wake the F up!!

70 is mad.

All it takes is one siao lang to gain possession of one.

Don't know how many had shipped out of their armoury and kept as personal collections as there are no proper account of the gun movement.

That is the worring part .... [grin]

actually those "unaccounted" for guns are still there that is why the police confiscated them, the only things missing are the owners of those guns, some run road liao/left the country, died or never pay licence fees.... reporters always make things sound more serious than it is

As always, news media reporting for the sake of readership. Choice of word and use of of verbiage meaning the same but at the same time different.

Those guns were NOT missing. They were reported by SPF as being confiscated for various reasons, from licence never pay, to owner died, to guns there but need to check license.

Allsingaporestuff lagi best.....posted guns missing. Pls la.... Check the accuracy before posting.

Just hope that if, indeed the security at that club is lacking, they better put in place additional measure as correction.
