I can only say from a taxi driver view, currently, no taxis can beat the old toyota crown in term of spacious, wear and tear, and also durability.

But of course with the new era of taxis coming from korean, most are more powerful but not long lasting.

Fares are higher due to rental is high for taxi driver, pax pay Taxi driver, taxi driver pay Taxi company and its shareholders. In between, a taxi driver still earn the same other than an increase in population and tourists.

Given a 46% increase of taxis since 2003, taxi passenger only increased 16%

it is higher also due to higher COE PQP...

Turbocharged

For AD to sell their cars in high numbers in SG, taxi is one way:

- Renault sold 59 cars from Jan 13 to Jun 13. With this taxi contract of 500 units., their sales shot up by 10X.

- in the same 6 mth period, only Volvos sold 512 units. The rest of the AD much less.

Renault also recently did similar deal in Macau, so I think, alot of sweetener for local cab company, lar

For your view pleasure... :D

Renault for taxi...not to the driver as trips to workshops might be never-ending. Maybe gd enough for a family car but to run as a cab is worrying. It's not how good the ride, how good the handling, but how less frequent it will break down and how tough it is to take the long hrs of driving.

wonder what will prime do with the smart fleet if they buy over it...

the smart crowns are near their expiry date.

the smart tourans... i don't really know how old they are.

the smart carens... won't fit into the JDM maintenance regime of prime's current fleet.

Something like the Chevrolet. Its American brand, but fully built in Korea. Many regard it as a Korean car. So is it a true Chevrolet? [laugh]

actually most taxis are made in korea now...

hyundai sonata, kia magentis, chevrolet epica (which is really a daewoo), renault latitude (which is really a samsung)

dunno why the traditional brands, toyota and nissan, never fight back in singapore.

in HK, nissan has updated its LPG cedric so it's back in the market again.

The reason is very simple....Toyota & Nissan has stop producing diesel taxi since 2006.
