Top gun? More like chew cheng kia from the childish manner he post on certain threads.

A case of cow blowing its own horn?

I thank all those who have provided constructive comments, particularly TameDriver, Weez911 and sake.

Since I've already stated my budget, how much I earn and whether I'm paying cash for the purchase is really irrelevant. I'm seeking opinion on the choice of cars, not financial planning advice. This is a car forum, not a wealth management forum, and certainly not salary.sg forum.

Agree.. Simply too many kaypoh people around.

Suggestion: go test drive both entry models & get the price list & specs.

After that, test drive both models in pre owned state. This way, would be able to gauge what kind of feel & handling that suits you & also the difference between new & preowned.

Most pre owned dealers Do not allow test drive

Bro, thanks for your compliments but my wife has told me countless times she regretted marrying me. Long long story, and I have a history of mental illness... until now, I am still not sure if I have fully recovered haha.

Becos the perks you give to "little three" more lucrative?

Just kidding...

dont worry lah. Women forever like to 口是心非 - 没事就是有事, 没关系就是有关系。

Therefore, regret means thank god.

Also, aren't we all are mental? Cars are so bloody expensive here yet we own one or more?

It's not about kaypoh. Some people can barely afford. What if financial circumstances change?

For ultimate comfort I'll go for 7 series; for speed, I'll go for pana.

The 740Li (turbo 3.0L) is the same speed 0-100 km/h as the Panamera supercharged 3.0L hybrid.

So you can have both speed and comfort with either choice.

The Panamera handles better but the 740Li is no slouch either (in my hands), it has the sharpness at speed and in corners, surprising for such a big and long car.

I wouldn't buy a preowned without test driving it. Don't get cars from these dealers; probably they are hiding defects from ignorant buyers.

Gs_1984 - I can see that for you whether it is a model that will be changed soon is an important factor.  You are right that it is hard to find the new 740i in the used car market so soon and even if there is, it will not be $300k.  New Panamera is coming next year?  Interesting.  Any pics leaked already?  As for A7, my personal opinion is that it is in a different segment.  Its peers are BM 640i GC and Merc 350 CLS.  And now A7 has a 2-litre version.  Also, from the front, it can be quite easily mistaken for A5 or A6.

Viceroymenthol - So you are saying Panamera is sharper is handling than 740i.  Does Panamera feel heavy since I'm can only afford to buy the base 3-litre model.

As someone mentioned, I will not buy a used car from a dealer who does not allow me to test drive.  Not only will I test drive, I will send it to one of those inspection centre for a basic check to identify any significant issues, before I decide to buy.

Yes, buying from a friend or an acquaintance is a feasible idea.  It largely takes away the concern of possible abuse by 1st owner if you know the person.  In addition, the spread normally earned by the dealer is split between the buyer and the seller.  So the buyer pays a little less and the seller receives a little more.

But if it is close friend, it may be awkward to negotiate a good price for both parties.  One way is to collect data from sgcarmart.com to obtain the buyer's price if he were to buy from dealer ($A).  Then the seller brings his car to a few dealers to ask how much they will take it in for to obtain an estimate of how much the seller will get if he were to sell it to a dealer ($B).  Then both parties agree on a price between the above 2 prices (eg ($A+$B)/2).  A challenge is to be able find cars of the same specs and age on sgcarmart.com.  But if you can find something newer or older, it is possible to do an extrapolation to estimate the price for a particular age.  .

A7 in 2l? Is that even better? You pay less and other thought you drive the high end model.

Or u need a 3l car this time?

With direct owner you can request they bring the car to specialist workshop and do a full diagnostic. Usually all issues will surface then, the when u buy also song song.

With such high end cars reckon getting dealer to honor warranty can be headache. Pending on the issue of course.
