Hi 159'ers,

I'm MK and New Bird to MCF.

Found something irritating in the 159 that I have and I hope you guys have a solution.

The car seat moves during braking. It can slide forward and back and this bugs me.

Any quick fix to this?

Many thanks

MK

Welcome! its going to be a long poisonous ride...

Regarding your question

Quick, nope.

It will take the same amount of time as everyone else who has had this issue.

Cost, depending on the guy's business...etc its about $160-180 per seat.

Hi guys,

I would like to know if anyone has any recommendations for car servicing? I read online that it's best to use Selinia motor oils..I am quite puzzled. I just bought my 159 less than a month. I am intending to sent it for servicing as previous owner told me to sent it for servicing every 60,000km..but I read online and on the owner's manual it's best to have it done 10,000-20,000...please advise. I bought mine through direct owner and car was in good condition.he kept receipts of whatever he replaced. He was the 2nd owner to this car. Now I am the 3rd owner. Within the 1st week of taking over, I experienced screechy sound whenever I steer the steering. So I brought it over to a workshop where previous owner used to service. My car was there for a day, and the workshop guy told me that the steering pipe is leaking. I paid $550 to replace that. As for my cigarette lighter was not working at all, however had light but it was not getting hot. I asked the same workshop guy to check and he told me "$200 plus just to fix it"..I told him it's ok, and just do the steering pipe. Few days later I happen to pass by a servicing shop at Pioneer and thought of having the cigarette lighter to be checked. He changed the fuse for me for just $20. Now I am intending to do a servicing for my car and replace my wiper, as Okto ice it can't fully sweep off the rain water and I can here a funny sound when it starts ticking left and right. Now I am confused with the servicing.

Hi Ashley

OK lets dispel a few myths here. No car and most certainly NOT an ALfa 159 should be left for servicing every 60000 kms. It should be done at LEAST annually. I only  hope that the previous owner did this else you will have excessive wear and tear on yuor car and that will be ultimately very costly to fix. Did you receive your car manual and servicing history documents with the car? Whenever buying a car it is essential to check these things.

Secondly you mention Selenia. Now a number of Alfisti swear it is superior and that thier engines run cooler. Ive been running a more mainstream synthetic oil since I purchased my 3.2V6 Brera new. And replacing oil first at 1500 kms then every year irrespective of km on the odometer. And after 6 years and over 40k kms the ooil is still clear and engine doesnt use a drop nor run hot at all. So by all means use it but frankly the added cost is of marginal benefit.

For servicing there are a couple of shops in Sin Ming that specialise in Alfas or there is the AD you can use.  I suggest the guys in Sin Ming. you can PM me for the name contact etc.

I would also suggest when you get your car serviced replacing all hoses as these tend to burst at no particular time but after 5 - 6 years its a wise investment. And yuo get to keep the old hoses as spares just in case. The thing with Alfas are preventitive maintenance is better than just the minimum servicing. Suspension parts tend to wear and the wheel alignment is a bit tricky so go to a very good reputable alignment shop and get this checked.

As for the cigarettte lighter it was probably just a fuse needed replacing so you were right to spend the $20.

One last thing - welcome to the wonderful world of Alfas and join the Alfa Group - were a very friendly passionate lot. PM me for details.

Hi MK

This is a known fault on the 159 Series. One option is to drill and bolt the seats in place. Can do yourself if yaou re DIY else to take it to an Alfa specialist and get them to do it for you.

Welcome to the world of Alfas :)

Hi Ashley, Wecome to the family. The previous might have made a mistake and instead of 6K he said 60k. Probably a good idea to check the records that he gave you with the car.

As for the wiper it could be the linkage not the motor that has spoilt. If it judders linkage us an issue. You can buy the spare part online or the local stockies and get it change.

Just get a proper Alfa specialist workshop to work on your car.

Cheers

Hi all,

I am new to Alfa but have been looking out for one for the past few months.

I'm looking to buy one very soon.

Is there any thing I should specifically look out for when purchasing a second hand Alfa 159 2.2A JTS Selespeed?

I am looking for either a 2009 or 2011 unit.

Aesthetic condition, no issue.

But with regards to engine, gearbox etc... I will require your advice.

Look forward to hearing from you guys very soon!

Thanks all!

Merry Christmas and Happy 2017!

Personally I will get a June 2010 onwards unit, with a cloverleaf badge and horseshoe rims.

The steering wheel has an indentation for the thumb, and the brakes are red brembos, and stock springs are lowered.

Bring it to your trusted workshop to check, or send back to agent for inspection and nego with the dealer in splitting the repair costs.

What does the cloverleaf represent?

Those I've seen so far does not come with the horseshoe rims.

And only the 2009 one has the cloverleaf badge.

Anything I should also look out for in particular under the hood?

Thanks!

Clover = QV = sports trim (in the case of 159)

QV comes with turbine rims but OJ is suggesting that u get one on horseshoes as it is the signature Alfa style.

Btw, 2.2 selespeed is robotised Manual GB and not A. It's something that u either swear by and swear at. Lol

Hi Fellow Drivers,

I read in the overseas forum that there is a reset procedure has anyone tried this method? This suppose will reset the ECU and "refresh" it and "cure" the lethargic feeling.

1) Disconnect the battery for at least 45 mins
2) Reconnect and start the engine but do not touch the throttle and let the car idle for 15 mins.
3) Turn the car off and leave for 10 mins.
4) Start the car and take her for a blast.

I think it's quite standard?

I know some also recommend to step on brake to use up any remaining energy.

This "45 routine" is supposed to reset the aircon vents and blinking canbus odo error too
