I bought a 2nd hand Alfa 33 way back in the 90s. Drove it for close to 5 years and never had a single breakdown. The most serious problem was a brake fade coming down from Genting.  The best part about the 33 was the sound from the twin cam and twin carburettor. I still have fond  memory of my Alfa up till today. Important part of owing an Alfa is that you need a good Mechanic.  Wondering where is Alvin Ang now.

I had an Alfa 33 1.7QV from 1990 to 1996. Car had a bullet proof engine but the brakes were insufficient for the power and torque of the sweet revving engine. The only thing that needed replacement, apart from the usual maintenance schedule was the water pump. I miss that car.

Used to drive 159, ECU died 6 months before scrap😭. Everything can failed except the joy of owning it. As long as willing to spend on repairs and Peter is still in business , Alfa still can buy.

Was driving a Peugeot after that, less problematic but doesn't have good mechanic supports, have to spends a lots time and money for minor problems. Btw I have been going to the 2 Peugeot "specialist" . They only depend on their diagnostic SW and they are not the original one.

Mechanic are important and not all mechanic are good in  troubleshooting . They need experiences not just the diagnostic SW. Majority of them usually are just doing the regular servicing.

Hi Gods of AROC

Just flirting around with the idea of a 159...

Anyone knows this one?

Looks decent, have you drove it? Maybe ask for the serving records to see if it was well taken care of - 3 owners quite hard to figure if it was abused. Also, I am a little curious why the owner changed the rims.

Just got a calendar reminder that today is the expiry of my previous white 159. Can’t believe 10 years just passed like this. I still remember back then, was thinking very hard whether to buy (reliability, resaleability) and then decided that worse case, I will drive it for 10 years. The car was the last batch before the facelift.

Eventually, owed it for 5 years, and then sold to a bro here. I think he didn’t sell it (at least based on last check with him 2 years ago). Wonder if he renewed the COE for it.

Neutral Newbie

Hi everyone! I hope this thread isn't dead. Looking for some tips since I'm considering this particular Alfa Romeo 159 https://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=1179962&DL=3079

Mileage is is unbelievably low and only 2 owners. It's been fully serviced and maintained by Euro Automobile. I've called them up and they are also willing to do a pre-purchase inspection.

Would appreciate any tips from the bros here... e.g. ball park figure of how much I should set aside for repairs etc.

Thanks in advance!

@xyloforte Unless you have like $5K set aside yearly to maintain, else forget about it.. own this car before, go JB also scared anytime the car can't reach JB custom during heavy traffic...  Top up abit more go for Giulietta 1.4A Turbo. more durable and responsive.  If die die want, send to Alfa Sportivo look for Peter to assess the car..
