If you are willing to let someone listen perhaps they can tell you if it's normal?

Even my civic has some whistling sound.

Turbocharged

Dear Experts,

Need to ask for advice.

My brand new (2 month old) CLA Mercedes Coupe gives a whistling sound when i drive to KUL esp at > 120km.

1st appointment at Pandan Loop Serv Ctr - They said they cannot help me coz S'pore roads cannot drive > 90km, so can't test. Have to put up with the sound.

I called agent to complain and they made a 2nd appointment.

2nd appointment at Pandan Loop Serv Ctr - Took my car in and serviced 1 and a half weeks. I drove in again to KUL. The sound still exists.

3rd appointment at Pandan Loop Serv Ctr - Its 2 weeks now and still no news.

Question:

1) What is wrong with this brand new car? Why does it make this sound?

2) What is wrong with Cycle and Carriage's customer service that bad?

I used to drive an Audi A4 for 7 years and never had any issues with the car and their customer service and technicians are very knowledgeable and efficient.

I will be grateful for any advice provided on what is wrong with my car since Cycle & Carriage people are incompetent.

Miss Desperate

As per the others' suggestions it sounds to me like a case of wind whistle. As the CLA has frameless windows it isn't as thoroughly insulated. And the CLA's engineering, being a MFA car, is a good notch below the 'main' line of Mercedes such as the C & E-classes.

Perhaps you can try installing some wind deflectors to see if that helps with the issue?

Hi all,

Current ride is a 2015 first hand C180 from C&C. The car was installed with an aftermarket GPS system by them, which when they first explained, seemed to be alright.

After having it for a while though, I've noticed that the GPS is laggy and not responsive. Does C&C provide retrofitting of the Mercedes in house GPS which is integrated into the COMAND system? If not, any idea where I can get it done?

i used to drive a subaru legacy, also frameless windows.. during those crazy times, i went up to 200kmh..

throughout from cruising to that speed (touch only), the only sounds were from the engine and road/tyres.

nothing about whistling wind noise.

might not be apple-apple to compare cars of different brand/make, but just wanna let her know it's not 'norm' for frameless windows to experience wind noise.

do u get the same kind of noise when u accelerate hard? dunno about CLA.. might be the turbo's whistling?

as for customer service.... well.. other than the coffee and pastries they serve at pandan, it's about the same everywhere from what i've heard ;-)

TY all for quick reply, was not expecting reply this quick.

Also i was waiting for more replies (as for post limit for new comers).

@Blueray, Sorry was not clear on my post i have 2 kids (8-7 years respectively), 3 adults and occasionally my father in law. so 4 adult and 2 children.

For my current ride when my Father in Law rides with us, my wife and helper sit with kids behind (a bit cramp but for once in a while

it do works). But for future maybe i have to bring my Father in law to Hospital on regular basis, hence thinking to upgrade.

@Heman75, Sorry i am driving Lancer glx (don't laugh [:p]). And it is around 8 and half year old ride (my first ride [cool]). Although my glx is stock but when i test drive Merc it was not able to pick as my glx picks, maybe its only me but once i put feet to paddle in glx i could feel car pick up speed but i didn't feel same pick in merc (or maybe it did and i didn't felt it, yesterday it was getting dark and raining

same time) but the representative was telling me it is adaptive (maybe it will adapt to my style [confused]).

@therock, May be Badge (just want to experience continental also) [laugh]. My father in law used to drive taxi and he keep telling me

Diesel would have problem (as i never drive diesel before so just trying to ask bros who have wisdom of driving daily). I am driving

Japanese car from last 8+ years and touch wood i never had a problem once, i just bring my car for regular service from c&c and never

worried about repairs. The few things which are bothering me a bit

1- How frequent there is break down in continental cars?

2- What is frequency of servicing and how much does it cost (my current ride i pay around 1.2k/year for servicing "c&c charge").

3- Cost of Petrol/diesel (i stay in town and my ride will be used to fetch and drop family members, all destinations are very near around 10-25 min drive). For now i fill tank 4-5 times a month which cost me around 60$ per fill and last around 300KM (not fantastic FC but cannot complain for glx).

Maybe some bros will think if so close distance why not use public transport [confused]  (due to medical reasons, i need ride for my kids and my

father in law).

Also i need to trade my current ride and got very different quotes.

Honda gave me quote of 12k, BMW 15k and Merc 23k.

Trying to stick with Japanese or Continential (don't know why i don't have good immersion of Korean rides).

I hope i didn't went to off topic .

Regards,

LEE.

with regards to breaking down... have the c class w204 for about 5 years now... zero.

usual wear/tear like suspension and mounting (changed at 3rd yr on warranty), tyres, and light bulbs...

and ya.. even the headlinght light bulb i just change only.. the rest are still going strong.

unless of course.. kenna a lemon i got nothing to say.

I would suggest checking out Elebest as they can do all sorts of crazy retrofit...

Nah no mods made. Drive slower to KUL? Not an option lah. Maybe Mecedez should advertise their cars to drive within Singapore only. Not applicable for long distance driving.

Anyway this is my last chance with them. Will sell it at a lost if they still can't fix the damn car.

For those considering Mecedez, please don't. I'll go back to Audi for sure. Problem free.

Since the car is also available in Germany, it is unlikely not suitable for high speed.

If it is not lemon, it might be inherent.  But you might have a sensitive ears (normal for ladies).  Accordingly, it is annoying to you.

Since C&C can't fix it, i would not bother to go back to them for troubleshooting.

Rather go to a trusted ws and get them test it.

Once problem identified, go back to C&C & tell them how to fix it.

Thanks bro for the advice. Not sure if i can go to another WS in view that the car is only 2 months old and under warranty with C & C.

Besides, i dont know any WS that knows Merc cars well. Any suggestion?

Thanks. Good to know that its not the design of the rimless door that cause this. Sounds like its just a flaw on C&C's cars esp the CLA.

Bummer..... Had i known, i should have stuck with getting another Audi. [:(]

Good point but since its under warranty, i rather C&C fix this issue. Sadly the whistling sound is loud, i even took a video and showed it to them. They just looked at me with raised eyebrows. ???

Maybe you record the sound ?

The small Audi cars have their own little niggles too.

But I have heard about sound in frameless door cars.

I would suspect it might be the turbo, which is normal to hear some whistling as it spools.

IMO is quite alright.. The quality in a merc is there and u can be assured..u still hear engine, road and tyre noise right?

Some may say, go for electric cars..

I dare say we as Merc owners sometimes thInk that since we paid so much, we expect the drivability of a BMW, the silence of a Lexus and the build of an Audi -

At the end of the day it's 'only' a Merc - ha ha

And in the case of the CLA it's Hungarian too.

But seriously Merc tend to be pretty reliable la

And the MFA platform has been around since 2011 or so.

Much less complaints online than many other cars.

Did well in JD survey in 2014.

I know your car is under warranty.  You are just asking for 2nd opinion.  Once problem found, tell C&C that's the problem.  Solve it.

I am not familiar with Merc Specialist.

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND MERC SPECIALIST WS?

Gee...I seem to get better advice from y'all then the C&C technicians. Anyway, the whilsting sound is rather sharp and loud, honestly i cant hear anything else. LOL.

Comparatively at speed < 90 km, my previous Audi A4 is a lot more silent and powerful.

Biggest regret of my life to have changed my car.

Ok, noted. Good point.  I'll ask around then. Thanks!
