Aisin Gearbox

I thought Audi all the way used ZF 8 Speed Auto.?

Yes... I also thought the same when I bought the car... even the Wiki page lists it as ZF... so it's damn confusing.

But I understand the ZF is used in the A8... the Q7 on the other hand before 2010, used a 6-speed Aisin. So for the new engines, they updated it to 8-speed from Aisin itself.

I really should check the manual/log one day to confirm this

Agree. Subaru's one of the more "liveable" CVT in the market....

CVT is classic case of love it or hate it kind of tech.

No right or wrong...just felt that the japs took the cheap and easy route to reduce consumption figure instead of spending potentially more time and resources to R&D a better conventional AT.

I happen to hate it.

You're right, CVTs really polarise opinions. There's very little middle ground. People seem to either love or loathe them.

Which is why it's probably best to try one out for yourself. No amount of reading will paint an accurate picture. And since CVTs vary widely between brands, it's rather pointless to generalise.

For what it's worth, I absolutely love my Subaru CVT. It's been a revelation.

Probably Subaru show how a CVT ride is suppose to be...haaa.... not some brand with a half bake type of CVT which kill the joy of driving.

That's one of the trade offs in driving a manual car, but heck I could get by a 2 hour causeway jam in the past so definitely PIE peak traffic is not a problem for me [laugh]

With manual, I don't have to keep my foot on the brakes

With auto, I have to control my foot on the brakes

Same same but different. [laugh]

These days, the more advanced makes have traffic foot brake hold function.

Some need to press a button to activate...

The more intuitive one I am quite impressed with is Mercedes implementation. When your car comes to a stop at a red light or jam, you just have to press in harder on the brake pedal to activate the brake hold. When time to move, just step on the accelerator and off you go. Works wonder with hill start roll back prevention too.

Ahh... modern day electronics wizardry. My car doesn't have that function. All leg muscles at work [laugh]

Now you can add the new Peugeot 2008 to the list..

Are makers moving away from dual clutches?

Citroen (e.g. C4) is also on the Aisin A/T.

The French marques have had surmounting issues with their previous dual clutches ... not sure if they're as bad as VW's dry 7-DSG.

Agree.

I find Subaru's automatic gearboxes 'slushy'

But their current range all CVT - I'd stay away from these

Have you try the latest subaru CVT?

Turbocharged

All of the MFA platform models, including the A,B, CLA models, and the C class too. Not sure about the E class.

W205, to my knowledge, uses the 7G-TRONIC PLUS, not the 7G-DCT..

Bro I think quite a few Merc use their DCT gearboxes ..

No lah, only the AMG (63, 45) models

ALL others are 7G-Tronic Plus. A/T.

Even the CLS400 is 7G-Tronic Plus.

You can check bro, it's a fact: all MFA platform cars use the DCT gearbox.
