Some people like sedan, some people like SUV. Some people like higher trim of a model when compared to lower trim of another model. Superb is 2L turbo, road tax higher compared to 1.5L turbo Karoq. U see what u like lor. I might take a look at Octavia and Karoq when I change car next time.

The style model is almost the same price as lowest trim for superb. May i know the reason why ppls choose to get the style rather than a superb?

I was facing that dilemma last weekend. My reasons for choosing Karoq style instead of Superb ambition plus (comparing this two instead as it is fairer due to only $1000 difference in price point):

- Current personal lifestyle: The flexibility of the SUV will come in handy when I move to new place, settle down with a family. It is also easier on my back when I load things, fit child seat etc.

- Interior Design: There are some bells and whistles available in Style but not the ambition trim model. E.g. Canton speaker, ambient lighting, 9 inch columbus navi system, LED Headlights, Virtual Pedals

- Lower road tax (684 vs 1194)

- Exterior Look: This is personal taste, and I find the Superb more suitable when I am slightly older. Perhaps it is the influence of the current trend for SUV too. Again, to each his/her own taste and view

- Drive: Higher profile. But if you are talking about the performance, Superb hands-down. I really enjoyed the test-drive with the 2.0L engine. Live up to its name.

- Fuel Efficiency: Based on some reviews and SC's sharing, Karoq has a better fuel efficiency

When are you collecting your Karoq style?

Oh, I got your PM already. Thanks. :)

Huh? An india car brand now still think high & mighty about itself?

That is why i question why would they want to turn off buyer with the basic trim. They should display what is the best it could offer to catch the attention 1st.

I suppose the segment they going for is the cheapest big suv that is affordable comes with what option and hence that segment market is the bare basic that the factory can produce.. I always preferred that they bring in with steel rims and hub covers and then let the buyer option it locally at a decent price . Win win situation with getting what you would preferred. A example would be the civic local sports edition with oz rim with trims.

Agent get the lower omv and you get a cheaper price with better goodies

Hi all,

I am concerned about cost of part replacment and servicing after warranty period.

Given that Skoda is under VW Group, I will use VAG's price point as a benchmark.

First 1000 km ownership and all thumbs up so far.

Hopefully it stays that way for 10 years. :)

Some car reviewer ever said about this car -

it's KAROQ-OK

Sounds familiarly good...

Hi all,

Thought of sharing this data with anybody who is interested in the fuel efficiency of the Karoq.

I have just passed the 3,000 kms mark and chanced upon the car trip readings. Checked the mileage from the car computer and it showed the average is 10.5km/l . My travelling pattern is 50% highway 50% normal roads. Fuel pumped so far is RON95.

Not so bad for me as my previous ride is only 9 km/l.

Regards, Angelo

Nice Angelo!

So far, I have clocked just past 1000 km and my FC calculation (based on full tank method and fuelly app) is 12.3km per liter using SPC RON95. This is mixed KPE and CBD driving daily.

And I drive with heavy foot as I always dash from red to green light. :)

HI, I have seen a youtube review on the Skoda Karoq by some car expert in Taiwan.

https://youtu.be/aUZedpEw1F8

He mentioned that DSG gear box will incur higher repair cost if got problem.

In taiwan, they have 4 years warranty and can buy additional 3 years warranty.

We dont have this in Singapore.

Also, the karoq style vs ambitious is more than 17k but in taiwan the difference is only 160,000 NT which is about 7k SGD.

If you see carefully, AD make a very decent profit margin of 40 to 50k each car for Skoda.

If we do the math, the style vs ambition omv is just 3k. With all the tax included their different is less than 7k. Guess where does the 10k go to?

Yes, 7-speed dry clutch DSG has a bad reliability history. Hopefully VW group have already made the necessary improvements.

I understand the recent Audi A3 and Q3 are already using same 7-dry DSG.

Hi Ano727,

Does your ambitious comes with :

- leather seat ?

- varioflex seating or seat can be removed ?

- wireless charging ?

Regards

I did testdrive today the Karoq. Thanks to friendly staff who's not trying to oversell his product.

My impressions...

It appears to be a midsize SUV due to its muscular looking front grille, but in reality, a couple of inches shorter than VW Tiguan and Subaru Forester. Inside, it is very spacious, much more interior space and legroom than Honda Vezel/HRV and Toyota CHR. Compared to Mercedez GLA, either same or slightly more spacious than GLA.

Exterior look appears bigger than it really is, perhaps the way the body lines and contour give it a bigger silhoutte. Interior finish is quite good compared to Seat Ateca (which is its twin), specially with soft rubber and good mix of black piano finish and chrome sidings to the console and aircon vents. I felt the Ateca is more plasticky.

I tried the Ambition variant which is the lower variant than Style, but the features for the lower variant are already impressive. A lot of Auto features that I haven't tested each one of them during the test drive. For example, putting the lights on AUTO means it uses LED daytime running light by default, but automatically turns on the parking light and low-beam headlight when inside the tunnel, or it gets dark due to nightime or even when it was about to rain earlier. I thought it's quite smart. The start-stop system and start-stop engine works quite well and in harmony with the rest of other parts like the radio, the aircon, the locks, etc. Even locking and unlocking does not require taking out the remote key, and actually is quite smart how it's done. The provision of smart accessories like hooks where you need them, seats that can be reconfigured, nets to keep items in check, velcro floor holders preventing rollover of groceries, and even a penholder in the passenger compartment ensures there are no rolling noises. And under the passenger seat, there is a small umbrella. I think Skoda is quite good in these small "creature comforts". The boot is extremely spacious, probably among best in its class, especially when rear seats are reconfigured.

Connecting to Carplay is such a breeze, very similar to VW and Audi cars I have used in the past. I can't say the same for Android Auto as I only brought iPhone today. Waze over Carplay worked well. The stock car radio is decent, just need to fiddle a bit with bass/treble settings. I know that higher variant Style comes with Canton speakers which is quite good brand for car speakers.

Now to the drive itself, the staff can notice that I'm overly careful stepping on it as I know from previous cars that VW turbos are quite powerful in launching from zero. Once I hit the open road, it feels effortless to go past 100kph. Braking was confident and felt sure. After a few minutes of test drive around Leng Kee area, it shows around 8 l/km which I think is quite good with me stepping on the accelerator quite a lot.

Now the good stuff comes with some questions as well. This car uses 7-speed DSG dry clutch gearbox which historically had some issues, especially at around 75,00km mileage. VW claims it has already been addressed, and that Skodas from Czech has very limited reported issues on this. So only time will tell.

Overall, I think with the performance, looks, packaging and price, and even with a bit of question on long term reliability which only time will give a definitive answer, I would lean more on going ahead with this one over other choices in its class. This is because I had the same dry clutch gearbox earlier but experienced no issue at all until I sold that other german car. I think it's worth the money and you get more value from this one.

You might ask why not the higher variant of Karoq or why not the Kodiaq, it's simple. I have a very strict budget and I have no intention to go beyond that. The one I saw and tested is more than enough for my needs already, probably much more.  :)

I will give more detailed feedback perhaps after I sign the order form and collect one. Any question, post here or PM me. Happy to help.

The new Q3 uses dq200? Seems like a downgrade from previous gen then which uses dq250

also for the 2WD version of the ateca, supposedly it's been changed to dry clutch too (for comparison sake)
