Lala81 Hypersonic October 18, 2020 Share October 18, 2020 All the egg importers are currently forced by govt to diversify food sources. So u see all these funny eggs coming in which the importers are selling at cost or a loss to satisfy govt requirement. Nobody wants these eggs... They recently stopped few importers from importing eggs from Malaysia because they refuse to comply. Its a stupid stick. But it's "national food security" lor. ↡ Advertisement 4

If they are same or better quality than our local / Malaysia ones, then our local companies are ripping us off for damm long! The lowest I bought was white shells Denmark egg, orange york and all above 60g. 30 eggs at $4. But that was through neighbourhood group buy.

My wife doing group buy and managed to source nihon eggs from local supplier. Can tell very good quality with big yolks, only less than $7 for 30 eggs still cheaper than our local eggs. Really unbelievable.

Lala81 Hypersonic October 19, 2020 Share October 19, 2020 (edited) Hmm ok. Let me do some education. 1. Most eggs in singapore are not pasteurised. There are several brands which are. Egg story and some at DonDonDonki.https://www.reddit.com/r/singapore/comments/cieq0e/japanese_of_singapore_any_egg_brands_to_recommend/ 2. If u are eating soft boiled eggs, the outside boiling water will kill the salmonella on the egg shell. It just needs 74 degrees celsius. Anyway as long as the raw egg never contact the outside shell, it's fine. The salmonella is usually on the egg surface. But always discard any cracked eggs which u are unsure when it broke open. Unless u cracked it accidentally yourself and still want to salvage. 3. For the above reason, japanese don bowls, with raw egg on top, needs to be pasteurized eggs. https://www.australianeggs.org.au/facts-and-tips/eggs-and-salmonella/#:~:text=Soft-boiled eggs are absolutely, other foods in the kitchen. Lala81 Hypersonic October 19, 2020 Share October 19, 2020 (edited) NTUC housebrand 10 eggs (malaysian farm) is $1.90-$2.10 currently which fluctuates from time to time. Lowest ever is $1.60 due to major oversupply. But they are more likely to come out with the latter promotion to clear short expiry eggs, u can get 3 for the price of 2 (which hasn't happened this year due to covid, but was like at least once monthly or every 2 months for years...). This isn't even the tray of 30 which is cheaper but i don't track prices of those. Whether u want more premium eggs, the singapore ones, the special feeds one/omega etc etc, bigger 55gm eggs/more yolk exotic country etc etc is up to you lah. Singapore farm ones are +20 cents niah. The ukraine eggs, spanish eggs etc etc etc. All these eggs, the egg supplier have to sell to consumers. Cos the vast majority of F&B outlets just use the malaysian eggs (unless u are talking about maybe some japanese or western restaurants who buy a more premium product). The hougang CKT/oyster omelette seller. U know how many eggs is stacked in front of his store? My kids counted. 1300+... If your other country eggs are cheaper? u think he won't buy meh.
