wanderphilic 1st Gear July 25, 2020 Share July 25, 2020 test drove the Octavia 1.4 recently and came away impressed but with a still low mileage current ride, big price jump since last COE bidding n that brand new model just a year away.... let's just say i'm rather looking forward to the new one. always been a fan of how Skoda tries to make their cars one of the most practical in each class
Michaellimkb Neutral Newbie July 26, 2020 Share July 26, 2020 Hi guys, I used to own a superb combi. However, it gave me the usual failure of clutch and mechatronics. Eventually, the engine consumed so much engine oil that I had to trade it. I loved the space but the repeated failures made it terrible to keep. Just wondering the new generation of skodas, are they still seeing those problems? May consider again if those have been resolved. Thanks.

Understood that the piston gasket had worn out and engine oil was leaking into the combustion chamber. Seems to be a common problem with turbo charged engine of that time. Knew that VW and Audi had the same prob. Even Mercs. Has avoided turbo charged and dual clutch since then. But, it did offer a damn good drive and comfort when it was not in workshop.

Shoebox 3rd Gear July 27, 2020 Share July 27, 2020 The VW 1.8 engine used in VW, Audi, Skoda is known to consume engine oil due to piston ring issue. They discontinued the problematic 1.8, so no more problems. The DSG, there is a new recall this year for the older DSG boxes. The newer cars are not affected, so I guess they fixed it (finally, fingers crossed). I almost bought Toyota during the CB period, instead of Skoda. Really tried to like it, but could not. Personal preference. Toyota has a good reputation, but it also has its own set of issues. Top 3 recent major examples.2020 - There is a recall for toyota fuel pump, because the impellers inside will crack and cause the fuel pump to fail.2020, 2018 - Recalls for toyota hybrids, because it could lose power and stall when the car is moving (imagine highway).2019 - Toyota's new CVT gearbox was recalled, because the pump impeller blades will detach, and stall the vehicle. The older generation 2.4 Camry also has engine oil issues, and they were sued because of it. They also discontinued the engine. End of the day, every car has its own set of issues. We won't know until we own one, or until we dig out all the dirt under the carpet. I think it's best is to get a car with a long warranty, and you can learn about its issues while still covered. 5

Would have been a blast to have the Lotus -toyota supercharge engine in the proton, but that did not happen.

The Superb you owned was using the 2nd gen EA888 1.8TSI engine (CDAA), coupled with the problematic DQ200 7 speed DSG (dry clutch) gearbox. Pick up is reasonably good and drive is smooth (thanks to the 7 speed DSG), but only when it is working fine. I am sold when I first sat in my colleague's 2009 unit (in 2010) and have been thinking to get one, until my colleague alerted me of the issue (mainly gearbox). I waited 2 years till the previous AD brought in the 3rd gen EA888 2.0TSI variant (CCZA) with DQ250 6 speed DSG (wet clutch) gearbox. Everything works well and my Superb remains problem free till I traded it at end 2016 (with 158K+ km on the meter). The current facelift 2.0TSI is using the 3rd gen series II EA888 engine (CAEA), which further improved on fuel efficiency and coupled with DQ381 7 speed DSG wet clutch. So far no negative feedback from users in Europe and other part of the world.

The_Bear Turbocharged July 28, 2020 Share July 28, 2020 Time flies. The RS245 has been with me for 1 year. First service done FOC without any fuss at VW. This is my second RS. I had the previous model combi and in between the 2 RS, I drove a Lexus GS350 for a few years, a very fine piece of car. Perhaps I am wrong but I am not missing anything. I know it does not sound right but the RS is more than a capable replacement for a car more than twice it’s value. Yes, it’s gruffier, harsher and some turbo lag, we are comparing a 2.0T to a 3.5 V6 from Toyota here, that’s about all. The sharp drive and character makes up for what it lacked. The built in cave behind swallows 2 full size bikes without a need for a bike rack. Overall, a value for money neat little package. My sister converted, ditched her A class and got a Octavia 1.4T. She is now a believer too. Our SA at Skoda is TOP notch. I would recommend him highly if anyone needs a referral, just PM me if u need the contact.

And the new 2.0t sure EFB is the EA888.3b so not that moddable but sufficiently good for town drive.

Eh ur mileage about same as mine haha but i am another 3-4 months before hitting 2 yrs. in fact it has beaten the record of my car ownership. The longest car ownership was 1.5yrs. This car i expect to hit 3 yrs ownership lol the duration of ownership shows how satisfied i am with this car and at this price.
