Is BHP and Torque really impt , which should we look at ?

Got to read at what rpm the peak torque. 300 at 1300 rpm feels totally different from 300 at 4000 rpm. Look at the hp and torque graph to see the complete picture, not just to peak number.

BTW HP is just Torque X RPM. They are not independent.

For example Golf is 176 torque with 112 bhp.

But the pickup seems faster than a stock civic which have higher bhp and torque

Vehicle weight, coefficient of drag and transmission loss plays a part in acceleration figures too, amongst others.

Torque mostly hit max at 2k rpm on start off, power peak at 4k rpm on cruising.

Torque n power output affect by car weight, gear box, ECU, tyre profile.

Both equally useful.

Brake response n power must equal to both of them.

No not important.

If the car feels fast to you then its fast.

Doesn't matter if the figures are low or high on paper.

Good pointers brought up by most of the bros here like what rpm torque comes in, power to weight ratio etc. My layman opinion is that torque is more important than hp in our day to day driving bearing in mind those pointers from the bros here.

Torque at low rpm enables u to take off quick from standstill n more importantly, the confidence to change lanes, overtake etc so in short, give me torque anytime!

based on my limited experience

high torque shiok for city driving

when hits nshw the low bhp lao kui

step accelerator cannot cheong

if any chance i will choose higher torque for driving in spore

but if the gearbox cannot make it also lao kui

as far as weight ... similar category car probably weight the same

to me torque > gearbox > bhp in priority

but in actual driving experience is the whole car

steering feel and suspension equally critical

Thats why we need to test drive. To feel if the drive is shiok or not. Figures are just for preliminary consideration but should not be used as ultimate justification. A lorry with high torque and power wont be shiok to drive. Sometimes small car which is zippy is more fun. And no worries on the fuel consumptio either

i agree, on paper numbers are a good starting point.

a test drive is the real deal.

think many current models have max torque at around 2k+ rpms, which is useful for our city driving conditions, and when mated with a good gear box, sweet spot.

must also look at car weight to be “zippy” [thumbsup]

and again most importantly is the gearbox

if it’s “unresponsive” ... high torque also no use

oops ... like talking about lambo and ferrari

imho ... B&B car simi bhp/torque should be acceptable la ...

just get one that you like exterior > interior > driving feel

Any idea for which petrol car has the highest torque for cat A? Ty

owner of B class, 2 series and below will feel offended if their car is considered as B&B cat lei

The dsg is a good responsive gearbox when it works. Too bad for being unreliable. Many manufacturers are switching back to normal torque converter boxes.
