Anybody else tried Meta Oil 5W40?

If the fuel economy improves, then it is likely to be a thinner grade of oil that allows the pistons to move more easily.  I'm concerned whether the oil breaks down easily if used for 10,000 km.

In addition, there are some car workshops that charge only $60 for very basic car servicing that includes Shell Ultra Helix 5W40 and oil filter.  The engine oil itself has a market value of about $35, so these workshops seem to be value for money.

I'm thinking of utilizing the saving to do serious maintenance like changing spark plugs or cleaning the oxygen sensor more regularly etc.

Japanese cars are rugged, don't mind the low grade oil, if Conti cars better don't take the risk, go for reputed brands

Wah, price went up! Available from Giant? How much is Snell & Carlube for HariRaya?

I went to buy 6 bottles during their warehouse sale yesterday. Some bro gave the heads up for this sale in the other thread so I quickly went down. Got it at $17.90. Think it is back to $19.90

Snell and Carlube no sale

Drain it out at 2000km, not smooth no power. And cause my fuel consumption up by 0.5km per litre. Lucky brought one bottle to try only. Treat it as engine cleaner. Pour, drive and flush out.

My own experience. Better stick with csr lube or shall.. Hoho

Did you go from a thinner viscosity oil to it?

It’s hard to understand why it would result in higher fuel consumption.

I personally have not tried it though coz they only have api rating.

I used csr lube and shall, no issue. I also advocate cheap engine oil and I change it often as my mileage quite high.

Oh, thanks for the heads up. Then fc shouldn’t be much different. Have you tried Schnell? I find quite good but more expensive at 24.99.

How you guys get better FC from engine oil? Is it even possible?

IMHO,  it depends on the engine.

But usually if a good quality low viscosity engine oil i used, FC will improve.

If 2 oils have the same viscosity and one has lower fuel consumption

this is because the oil has friction modifiers inside and it reduces fiction

inside the engine. Base oil price should be quite similar but better oils have

more additives including friction modifiers. Anyway that's what they claim.

Two oil may have the same viscosity on the bottle,  but yet can have different viscosity when in use.

Lower viscosity usually improves FC unless the engine doesn't call for it.

If want more friction modifiers, use Caltex with Techron Clean & Glide Technology.

can this be used on Ferrari and Porsche. Got any manufacturer approval?

Drive supercars then shouldn't you go for branded EO?

Anyway this EO so far so good. My car heavy drinker maybe becoz old car so must keep topping up. At this price worth every penny.

As long as the driving distance is not excessive at one stretch e.g. Grab driving, then normal engine oil of 5W40 should be sufficient.
