Err... launching in Singapore just when facelift have been announced in Japan... so helping Nissan Japan to clear old stock??

Apparenty Tan Chong touted great value cos 1.2L means annual road tax is only $500, so that's substantial savings over competitors like the Triplets...

Then today dropped the bombshell that road tax should be $1300...

So over 10 yr, the car will cost $8K more.

Let's see if they will reduce the price of the car, or just count on e-power to beat the competition, while price is much higher...

No thanks to our unique road tax structure. For hybrid or EV, the road tax payable is the higher of:

1) amount calculated based on engine capacity

2) amount calculated based on power output from the electric motor

In the case of ePower Serena, the power output of the electric motor is equivalent to ~2L N.A. engine, thus is slapped with a higher road tax.

The same case for Honda Odyssey Hybrid, which is running on a 2.0L petrol driven engine, supposedly having cheaper road tax than the normal 2.4 L petrol engine, but ended up with >25% extra, due to power output from the electric motor.

help me understand bro, i see prius hybrid 1.5L road tax at $650 seems same as non hybrid.

And also, does it comes with electronic brake or still foot brake?

Size wise,  is it something like Toyota Noah and/or Honda Stepwagon?

I saw a review @ YouTube that mentioned there will be "fake noise" generated for speed below 30km/h due to the "almost noiseless" state of the car and it couldn't be turn off (unlike Nissan Note). Is that also true for Singapore version?

Yes, price finalised, and first vehicle is going to be handed over to buyer soon. It was at the stage of registration that TC realised the mistake with the road tax yesterday. pre-launch price was $139K.

Value-wise, it seems like TC is trying to avoid outcompeting its own Elgrand, so the Serena has very low specs, unfortunately.

- Electronic parking brake / Autohold

- auto-dimming rearview mirror

- blindspot monitoring

- auto tailgate

- LED / DRL

- Electric / memory seat

 

All the above don't have 😅

For hybrid, Road Tax payable is based on the engine capacity or the maximum motor power rating, whichever is higher.

Engine Capacity: 1,198cc

Road Tax = [$500 + ((1,198 - 1,000) x $0.75)] x 0.782 = $508 (round up)

Maximum Motor Power Rating: 100KW

Road Tax = [S$950 + ((100 - 70) x $24)] x 0.782 = $1,306 (round up)

As such, annual road tax for Nissan Serena e-Power should be $1,306
