It's not about the money. It's about the "face".

I quote Mr Lim Wee Kiak, then MP for Nee Soon GRC in 2011, who said as such to Lianhe Zaobao:

"If the annual salary of the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts is only $500,000, it may pose some problems when he discuss policies with media CEOs who earn millions of dollars because they need not listen to the minister's ideas and proposals. Hence, a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity."

Love his reasoning.

No wonder USA need to get Trump to be President....

But in that sense the policies maker should be Warren and Bill. Because even Donald is still far cry from any of them. They will never accept any ideas or proposals from Trump??

But I thought legislation applies to everyone?

Must pay Minister millions to allow them to pass legislation easily?

No wonder majority of the people never get to have their voices heard. Because the Ministers are top earners. Majority 90% earn less than them just quietly accept any new legislation.

I can guarantee you that all the MP get free parking in their area , this is a fact

carry balls grassroots will even use chairs to reserve the lots for this VVIPs

I think that this is against the 'clean wage' policy and lack of 'self discipline'?

why Ong never refer to themselves leh? only tekan teachers?

Yah, so they better sort that out.

“Free parking is at odds with the rest of the civil service” so the man says.

“Is it true that they get to park for free at Parliament House?

Intrigued, I asked the Clerk of Parliament. Answer: Yes.

MPs - elected MPs as well as Non-Constituency and Nominated MPs - get to park at the restricted staff carpark at Parliament House, which is not open to the public, but only for staff, and authorised visitors and persons.

Staff pay $139.10 for a monthly season parking ticket. Like other civil servants, they pay for parking at their work premises.

In contrast, MPs park for free. The rationale is this: "Members of Parliament (MPs) do not have offices in Parliament House and do not require full-time parking here. As authorised persons to Parliament House on sitting days or when they are here for meetings to perform their official duties, MPs park their vehicles at the restricted carpark at no charge."

It shows how low the standard of the new 4G leaders are

They lack the foresight to anticipate people will be going to ask hard questions about this topic on MP free parking?

If they were smart , or perhaps street smart, they should have cleaned up their own backyard before going out and talk crap about 'Self Discipline'

The founding leaders were world class minds, and great men. This group now...........

In the wise words of Tin Pei Ling... I don't know what to say

Really disappointed with the 4G minister respond on this.

The impact is very huge.

Teachers are the educator of our young generation. They impart knowledge and moral value to the children.

They are moulding the future of the nation.

By imposing parking charges to teachers what is the message you want to send to the future generation?

SGP... is a place where everything is based on economic dollar and cents, zero empathy....place?

Many had voted a party over the person. But, where is that moral courage of the person, to stand firm on doing things the right way despite external pressure when there may be a negative impact on the self.

[furious]只许州官放火,不许百姓点灯 [furious]

As a miliion dollar minister, or even a MP (who are paid ~$210K P.A. in allowances for their official duties), would they not feel lacking in dignity when facing their residents, whom most are drawing a much lower pay cheque than them, yet still have to pay for their parking charges?

They are no different to those cheapo that drive good car yet evade paying parking fee through tailgating, imo... ... [thumbsdown][thumbsdown]
