Cadillac is turning its flagship sedan into a speedboat.

The 2019 CT6 V-Sport debuting at the New York International Auto Show is a high-performance version of the full-size four-door, and introduces an all-new engine to the brand’s lineup.

The 4.2-liter turbocharged V8 is Cadillac’s first of the type. The very modern motor features a “hot-V” design that sends the exhaust through twin turbochargers stuffed in-between the cylinder banks. This creates a compact package and helps reduce turbo-lag, courtesy of the shorter distance that the exhaust needs to travel before it hits the turbos.

Cadillac says the engine produces 550 hp and 627 lb-ft, while a detuned version be offered in non-V-Sport models with 500 hp and 553 lb-ft. Both are matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy ratings have not been revealed, but the engine is equipped with a stop-start feature that turns it off when the vehicle isn’t in motion.

The CT6 V-Sport also features a louder exhaust than other models, a performance-oriented suspension and all-wheel-drive system, summer tires, Brembo brakes and subtly aggressive bodywork. The entire CT6 range is getting a mild styling refresh and updated controls for the infotainment system, with more auxiliary buttons and a knob controller to go along with its touchscreen interface.

One thing the V-Sport is not getting is Cadillac’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving aid, which allows for hands-free driving on the highway. The feature is offered on other CT6 models, but not currently destined for what's very much a human driver's version.

The CT6 will continue to be built at GM’s Hamtramck, Mich., factory, but the origin of the new V8 is intriguing. It will be hand-assembled at GM’s Performance Build Center, which is located in the Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky where the Chevrolet Corvette is made.

First Look: Cadillac takes a big step forward with the small XT4 crossover SUV

http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/news/2019-cadillac-xt4-preview-article-1.3900847

Once upon a time, Cadillacs were defined by how long and low they were, from chrome-encrusted grille to taillight-tipped fin. Clearly, those days are over.

Having debuted in Cadillac’s hometown of New York City, the new 2019 XT4 isn’t long, low, or, because it weighs a minimum of 3,660 pounds, particularly lean. Instead, it is a new small crossover SUV that will help to redefine Cadillac design while bringing new, younger buyers into showrooms.

Notably, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 is also the first vehicle of an upcoming product barrage that will, according to company president Johan de Nysschen, bring one new Cadillac to market every six months through 2021.

When it goes on sale in the fall of 2018, the new XT4 will be available in Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport trim levels, each offered with various options and packages to tailor the small luxury crossover to customer preferences.

Expressive design, inside and out
2019-cadillac-xt4-orange-interior-aerial

Though it resembles the larger Cadillac XT5, the new XT4 is more expressive, and not just because of its signature Autumn Metallic paint color.

In particular, the LED lighting elements are more dramatic, and in Sport trim with the optional 20-inch wheels, the angular XT4 simply looks terrific. Sport trim replaces the bright metallic, satin aluminum, and chrome exterior detailing found on the Luxury and Premium Luxury versions of the SUV.

Inside, seven different interior color schemes are available depending on the trim level. Colors include Jet Black as well as Light Platinum, Light Wheat, and Sedona, each standing in sharp contrast to their Jet Black complementary color. Various trim elements are also offered, including simulated metal, real aluminum, real carbon fiber, and two different high-gloss wood choices.

Standard equipment includes dual-zone automatic climate control, a new steering wheel design, and sport-bolstered front seats wrapped in leatherette upholstery. Upgrades include leather, a front seat massage function, white ambient lighting, an in-cabin air ionizer, and next-generation wireless device charging.

Cadillac says the XT4 will supply “segment-leading” rear seat space, which is easy to believe given that its wheelbase is greater than a GMC Terrain Denali’s. Cargo space, however, is rather tight, measuring just 22.5 cu.-ft. behind the available power rear liftgate. Fold the rear seats down to create 48.4 cu.-ft. of cargo volume.

Dramatically improved control layout

2019-cadillac-xt4-interior-dashboard.jpg

Cadillac will install its next-generation CUE infotainment system in the new XT4. Designed to operate similar to a smartphone, it features a high-resolution 8-inch touchscreen display, improved voice recognition, faster response time, and near field communication technology. An embedded 4G LTE Wi-Fi modem helps to ensure over-the-air software updates as they become available.

Note that Cadillac has changed its approach to control layout with the new XT4. A row of piano key climate controls sits beneath the CUE display, and on the center console the company provides a rotary controller, volume and seek controls, and shortcut buttons for using the CUE system without resorting to touchscreen or voice commands. This should dramatically reduce complaints related to the controls in many existing Cadillac models.

Cadillac supplies four USB ports for the XT4, as well as standard Teen Driver technology that can spit out report cards related to your kids’ driving habits while in possession of the key fob. Navigation and a Bose premium sound system are options, and an SD memory card reader is included with the navigation system.

In order to obtain modern safety technologies, you’ll need to upgrade to the Premium Luxury or Sport trim level. Both include front and rear parking assist sensors, a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert and lane change alert, and a Safety Alert Seat as standard equipment.

Undefined, but certain to contain a wide range of driver assistance and collision avoidance technologies, both the Premium Luxury and Sport trims can be fitted with Driver Awareness and Driver Assist option packages.

Cadillac is also offering a next-generation Rear Camera Mirror system for the new XT4, which provides an unimpeded 180-degree view of what’s behind the SUV, and which allows the driver to zoom in on the image and tilt the camera for a better perspective.

Turbocharged 4-cylinder with front- or all-wheel drive

2019-cadillac-xt4-orange-rear-profile.jp

A new turbocharged, direct-injected 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine powers the XT4, and it includes automatic engine stop/start, Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation technology, and a twin-scroll turbocharger design. Cadillac says it develops 237 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 258 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,500 rpm to 4,000 rpm.

A 9-speed automatic transmission is the only choice, and it comes with next-generation shifting software. Power is delivered to the XT4’s front wheels, unless you’ve opted for the active twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system. This design allows the driveshaft leading to the rear wheels to completely decouple from the front axle in order to help save fuel.

So, given all of these fuel-saving approaches, what is Cadillac projecting for its new SUV? The XT4 should get 25 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg in combined driving.

Cadillac uses a MacPherson strut front and 5-link independent rear suspension design, and says the XT4 provides 6.7 inches of ground clearance. Choose the XT4 Sport for an optional active sport suspension with continuous damping control.

Electric variable-assist steering is also aboard, as well as a new electric-hydraulic braking system engineered to, you guessed it, contribute to better gas mileage.

2020 Cadillac XT6: 3-Row Caddy Crossover De-Escalates From Escalade

https://www.cars.com/articles/2020-cadillac-xt6-3-row-caddie-crossover-de-escalates-from-escalade-1420756991798/

Cadillac has been behind the eight ball in reacting to the massive interest in crossovers and SUVs from luxury buyers, and the company aims to rectify that in 2019 with the introduction of a bunch of new models. First was the XT4 compact crossover, which has proven popular, but the latest is this: the new 2020 Cadillac XT6 three-row luxury crossover, now making its debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The XT6 is a front-wheel-drive model based on the same platform as the GMC Acadia, but with unique styling and a Cadillac interior. One thing it's not is an alternative to Cadillac's own massively popular Escalade, the GM brand's other three-row SUV — because why build yourself a competitor in your own showroom?

Exterior

wykrpmjvfg5zzp6dfan1.jpg

There's definitely some Cadillac influence in the sheet metal, with a choice of two headlight patterns and standard vertical LED accent light bars. Rear taillights are also LED and designed to evoke the idea of tailfins. Two different themes will be available for the XT6 appearance-wise: the uninspiringly named Premium Luxury and Sport trims. Premium Luxury gets bright "Galvano" exterior accents on the trim and grille, while the Sport model gets dark accents, available 21-inch wheels and "performance-inspired" detailing.

Interior

qmwbuoiwfmirjzh4i0wz.jpg

The cabin of the XT6 is familiar Cadillac in shapes and materials, with a choice of colors and two distinct looks depending on trim: Premium Luxury gets wood d‚cor, while the Sport gets carbon fiber. Semi-aniline leather seating is optional, as are automatic heated/ventilated front- and heated second-row outboard seats, an in-vehicle cabin air ionizer and a Bose Performance Series 14-speaker premium audio system. Power-folding third-row seats are actually standard, while a "tip/pitch-and-slide" feature helps the second row move forward, allowing for easier ingress to that third row. A remote-folding feature for the second row is also standard.

There's a decent list of optional equipment for the XT6, as well including a night vision camera, an HD surround-vision camera, a hands-free liftgate and keyless open with adaptive remote start.

The latest version of the Cadillac User Experience multimedia system is present, now featuring an additional rotary controller knob with a "jog" feature that allows for even more flexibility in controlling the system. An 8-inch touchscreen display is standard, as is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Near-field communication is also standard, allowing users one-touch phone connectivity; six USB ports are also available, two for every row.

Under the Hood

Powering the XT6 is GM's venerable 3.6-liter V-6 engine, which makes 310 horsepower. It's mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels with all-wheel drive optional (standard on the Sport trim). The transmission offers four drive modes, and the V-6 features active fuel management that can kill two cylinders in light duty for fuel economy benefits.

The Sport model gets some actual performance upgrades, as well, not just cosmetic changes. The all-wheel-drive system gets a Sport Control active twin-clutch design with active yaw control for better traction, while a "continuous damping control" active suspension is fitted. The Sport also gets a faster steering ratio for more aggressive steering response and feedback.

Safety

ng2bjnjmhr7tb4yn22tv.jpg

The XT6's biggest strength may be in its long list of standard safety equipment. These include an HD rear camera with washer; forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian detection and braking; front and rear park assist; lane keep assist with lane departure warning; blind spot warning; rear cross-traffic alert; and more. Optional packages will net you a rear camera mirror with remote wash, adaptive cruise control, automatic park assist, rear pedestrian alert, a surround-view camera, a head-up display, reverse automatic braking and a night vision system.

The new Cadillac XT6 will go up against the formidable new 2020 Lincoln Aviator when it arrives in showrooms in the spring, and it will have its work cut out for it — it's down in horsepower, on-board technology, fuel economy systems and more. Stay tuned for a matchup as soon as we can get our hands on one.

Cadillac's First Electric Car Will Be This Crossover

https://jalopnik.com/cadillacs-first-electric-car-will-be-this-crossover-1831720822

tialfddcjrziri4bsckj.jpg

Audi’s doing an electric crossover. So is Mercedes. So is BMW. And so now that Cadillac is to be General Motors’ lead electric brand, it has to go where the competitors are. Meet the first public sketch of Cadillac’s EV crossover future, unveiled at an event tonight ahead of the Detroit Auto Show.

ppyokua5kpindnjsvolw.jpg

What do we know for now? Not a ton. The design was revealed at the debut party for the 2020 Cadillac XT6 tonight, but nothing physical was shown off. Still, the audience of journalists and industry folks was told it will be a crossover, will come in two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and will use an all-new skateboard electric platform. In other words, this won’t be built on an existing architecture like the Chevrolet Bolt.

The news comes at a time of great upheaval for Cadillac, GM’s storied but struggling luxury brand. Its move to New York City, focus on BMW-fighting sedans and flashy marketing campaigns largely didn’t translate into sales. Now it has a new boss and a renewed focus on crossovers and SUVs, presumably until it goes electric in the coming years.

But will this Cadillac EV be a leader, or just another follower from a brand that never seems to know what it’s supposed to be doing?

All 275 Cadillac CT6-Vs Allocated For The U.S. In 2019 Sold In Hours

https://www.carscoops.com/2019/01/275-cadillac-ct6-vs-allocated-u-s-2019-sold-hours/

Amid reports of Cadillac not dropping the CT6 from the U.S. market, here’s other refreshing news for fans of the American luxury sedan.

Cadillac announced the high-performance 2019 CT6 V-Series powered by the Blackwing engine, sold out this week in mere hours after the company started accepting preorders. As part of the preparation for the launch this summer, Cadillac started taking preorders the morning of January 14.

By 2:30 p.m. the same day, all 275 cars allocated to the United States were sold out. The news was broken to MotorTrend at the Detroit Auto Show by Cadillac President Steve Carlisle.

That’s quite an impressive feat for a car that starts at $89,785, even factoring in the two days at the Cadillac V-Performance Academy at Spring Mountain Resort in Nevada included in the Cadillac CT6-V’s price.

Announced in March 2018, the hand-built Blackwing V8 that powers the CT6-V is a 4.2-liter twin-turbo unit that makes an estimated 550 hp and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque. The engine is hooked to a Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission (10L90) that drives all four wheels.

Cadillac hasn’t released performance specs yet, but chances are the CT6-V will be a formidable opponent for the likes of the Mercedes-AMG S63 and the upcoming Audi S8. The high-performance sedan rides on 20-inch V-Sport wheels and uses 19-inch Brembo brakes developed specifically for it.

The CT6-V also packs a mechanical limited-slip rear differential responsible for increasing traction at the limit, as well as V-Sport specific suspension tuning for “improved roll control, cornering capability, and steering response.”

A technological showcase, the 550-hp sedan also features modified steering and Magnetic Ride Control damper calibrations, an exhaust system with active valves, track-tuned Active Rear Steer, revised AWD torque split, and track-focused stability controls, among many other things.
