The title read like fake news but it's actually real. Facts are really stranger than fiction.

By the same logic, an employee's work performance should also not be linked to his salary right?

Rail reliability not linked to fares to avoid punishing operators when they need funds the most: Khaw

This is the kind of mentality that actually encourages more downtime.

Imagine what would happen if employees who doesn't meet their KPI still get their increments? Why would they take the trouble to strive for their KPI then?

leave early few seconds ... say sorry

late few seconds ... say sorry

forget to make announcenent ... say sorry

ours breakdown for hours ... hala-kiri [sly]

more like break down for hours as compared to India and some other cities, we are ahead, we just a thankless bunch of people who are dying of envy because of others salary..

YET, those that serve the ground are not really the ones we should be hard on but should be thankful that they are still putting their heart and soul to the job.

So while I think the train needs to be more efficient, I really worry on the fact that this will become more costly.

And we will be blamed because we had high expectation of lower downtime, rather then we are trying to retain the good service that we once enjoyed without paying an arm and a leg for.

Early Closure/Late Opening from Admiralty to Yio Chu Kang MRT stations for Maintenance & Improvement Works from 1 June to 1 July 2018

1. From 1 June 2018 (Friday) to 1 July 2018 (Sunday), five stations along the North-South Line (NSL) from Admiralty to Yio Chu Kang will have their operating hours adjusted on Fridays and the weekends for more rail engineering and rectification works to take place. Admiralty, Sembawang, Yishun, Khatib and Yio Chu Kang MRT stations will close earlier at around 11.00pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and open later at around 8.00am on Saturdays and Sundays.

2. Train services will retain normal operating hours on 15, 16 and 17 June 2018, with operating hours extended on the eve of Hari Raya Puasa (ie. 14 June 2018).

4. Mr Lee Ling Wee, Chief Executive Officer for SMRT Trains said: “Our engineering teams are making good progress on the renewal, maintenance, and rectification works along the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL), thanks to the additional hours available on weekends over the past six months. As part of our continued efforts to improve rail reliability, we have been working closely with the Land Transport Authority to intensify our renewal and maintenance efforts. Where possible, we are adjusting the operational hours along the NSEWL in sectors and keeping the rest of the network operating regularly so as to minimise inconvenience to commuters. We continue to seek your patience and understanding as we work hard to improve the journey experience for our commuters.”

Alternative Travel Arrangements for Journey Planning

5. During the early closure and late opening of these five MRT stations from 1 June to 1 July 2018, Shuttle Bus Service 10 will ply along the stretch of the NSL between Woodlands and Ang Mo Kio MRT stations, stopping at designated bus stops near the affected stations to pick-up and drop-off passengers.

6. In addition, Express 17 will operate point-to-point between Woodlands and Bukit Panjang MRT stations, connecting commuters directly to the Downtown Line and allowing for a faster journey to the city area.

7. As the timing of the first and last trains departing the affected stations along the NSL will vary, commuters are advised to check for station-specific timings on SMRT’s trains’ website and social media platforms when planning their journeys on affected dates. More information on train service timings during the early closure and late opening from 1 June to 1 July 2018 can be found in Annex A. Commuters are also reminded to cater for additional travel time when using the shuttle bus services.

Extended Engineering Hours on Sengkang and Punggol LRT systems on Sundays from 27 May to 7 October 2018

SBS Transit’s asset renewal and preventive maintenance works on the Sengkang and Punggol Light Rail Transit (SPLRT) guideways, which commenced earlier in January 2018, will continue to be conducted on Sundays during passenger service hours. Certain parts of the SPLRT will be affected by limited services till 1730hrs on Sundays from 27 May 2018 to 7 October 2018. There will only be train services on one platform, with the other platform opening from 1730hrs onwards (i.e. one-directional services).

During the extended engineering hours, works will be conducted on the concrete plinths, which are elevated slabs for the wheels of the Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) to run on. Rectification works will be carried out on the finger-joints of the plinths as they have shifted over time due to the constant movements of the LRVs on them. These finger-joints cater for expansion and contraction of the plinths and also serve to provide a smooth and comfortable ride for commuters. Works will involve hacking of the concrete plinths and repositioning the finger-joints before cementing them into place again. Extended engineering hours will allow the hacking works to be done during the day and allow the concrete time to cure before it is safe for the LRVs to run on the plinths again.

In addition to maintenance works on the plinths of the guideway, there will be enhanced preventive maintenance work done on the signalling cables, as well as the asset renewal works which include replacement of the power rail and power rail assemblies. During these works, there will be temporary sound barriers put up to reduce inconvenience to residents.

Information on extended engineering hours will be available on publicity posters and display screens located at the stations. Commuters will also be informed via announcements on the LRT platforms and alerts on SBST’s social media pages. Staff will also be deployed on the ground to inform commuters on affected dates.

Please refer to the attached photos of the finger-joints (Annex A), as well as posters for details of the schedule for Sengkang LRT system (Annex B) and Punggol LRT system (Annex C) for May to October 2018.

Siao liao lah, more bullets for increasing train fare... [shakehead]   [bigcry]  [furious]  [furious]

Downtown Line hit by signalling fault; commuters complain of crowded train platforms

jtlrt240518.jpg

SINGAPORE - The Downtown Line (DTL) was hit by a signalling fault on Thursday morning (May 24).

The Straits Times understands that the fault lies with Tampines station along DTL 3 in the east, although commuters along the entire line were affected.

It is understood trains are still moving but at a lower speed.

A photo sent in by an ST reader shows the crowded platform at Bukit Panjang station along DTL2 in the west.

A check on DTL operator SBS Transit's social media pages did not indicate that a fault was ongoing, but there were several complaints by commuters on Facebook and Twitter.

It is unclear whether the communication glitch lies with the station or the trains.

Sometimes we really have to appreciate the kind intention of train operators for not wanting to report breakdown or delay openly. They are actually doing us a big favor (so that fare can be kept low)... [grin]
