Google maps, measure distance.

Otherwise use fitness watch with gps.

I ask because I don't believe my fitness watch is correct and I want to check.

Is there an app which would allow me to trace my route on a map and thereby know the exact distance I walk

As long your phone has GPS, there's alot of running apps to track distance and map. Take note, GPS is just fairly accurate.

Anyhow google below,

mapmyrun, strava

Aren't those two based on GPS info.

If I use google maps I get a distance of 7.8km whereas my watch gives me 5.05km.

That's a big discrepancy.

For one run, Just run with your phone and your watch. Use one of the running apps on your phone and check it vis a vis with your watch. The discrepancy should be at most 100-200m cos usually the phone's GPS is more accurate.

If not then your watch is really inaccurate and try to reboot it or something.

What watch is that? Some watch has no GPS one, so they count the steps, and use some default strides to calculate the distance, which is always inaccurate,

A few days ago, my watch went haywire.  Look at Strava map, it is out of sync.

I reset watch GPS.  After that everything is fine.

I always run on outer lane when in stadium. Only during IPPT then go for inner lane.[grin]

That's the right track etiquette 👍

Inner lanes meant for sprints and counter clockwise only.

Outer lanes for warm ups and jogs.

Oh I used to go on occasional weekdays to be inspired by xmms😄

Can't do that now thanks to SA's selfish act 😛

Sun sessions were more regular and serious

When I run in stadiums, I also run the outer most lane, even if there is nobody also I take lane 8, because bigger rounds, can run lesser rounds...[:p]
