Time to renew the contract. But the rates have risen. Makes no sense to stick to the same provider.

Check with those having experience of renewing recently :

So who / which company are left standing and offers the best package now? .. anything lower than 25 cents?

If contract is expiring in next year January, need to wait till then, or can renew anytime with the new contract with new provider taking effect only in next January?

Oil prices dropping... May want to consider no/shortest lock in contracts.

Yeah, but strangely it's actually cheaper now to take 1-year contract vs 3-year contract.

Fixed tariffs seem to be priced close to SP quarterly tariff, understandably so as few consumers will sign up if it is higher.

Average 3Q oil price is still lower than current prices, despite recent Omicron's pullback, so fixed might go higher next quarter.  Agree with you it is kinda of hard to justify locking in long term at $80 oil.

Usually long term is dearer than shorter tenure.

Average was 55 cts per kwh vs my all in of 16.7 cts.  It seems wholesale plan got a lot of extras.

Wholesale prices are back down in Nov but not to levels seen in 2019 and 2020 but with all the extras, don't think the marginal saving is sufficient to compensate for the risk.

Can check if you have a smart meter?  If not, how is the half hourly tariff determined?

Full hedging is likely to be expensive, so I doubt any of the independent retailers hedged much of their exposure.  If they did, when wholesale prices shot up, their futures contracts would have been in the money, yet so many folded in such a short time.

I can only conclude with full hedging, there is no money in this business.

Heng I only trust gentailers.

Maybe they did hedge and their contracts are so deep in the money that it is better for them to unwind, cash out and close down? 😂

After all, there's no penalty for closing down right?

Yes, no cost to transfer to SP.
