Jusnel 6th Gear October 23, 2019 Share October 23, 2019 the next thing they should STOP using plastic is those bakery shops One bun one plastic bag. Its such a waste. One bun, can eat finish by one or two minutes, and we throw the little plastic bag which will last 1000 years. And worst thing is u buy 2 or more buns, the shop will give you a bigger plastic bag to contain the buns. That one also a waste and damaging to environment. One day, one bakery shop can sell 1000 buns. That is 1000 plastic bags in the bin and thrown into the enivorment and stay for 1000 years. Do the math. They care for environment more than locals... Fabric reusable bags and trolley bags full of plastic bottles of natural mineral water transported from Fiji or French alps. I have to depend on electricity (generated using fossil fuels here) to pump the water from McRitchie reservoir to my home for a drink. Me bad!
Jamesc Hypersonic October 29, 2019 Share October 29, 2019 Well done Mr Chan. Solar on roof tops not only get electricity it also keeps the roof cooler. Solar on reservoirs also stops the water from evaporating. 👍 Quote By next year, Housing and Development Board (HDB) residents can expect to see one in two flats sporting solar panels on their rooftops. And by 2030, Singapore aims to produce at least two gigawatt-peak (GWp) of solar energy, said The 2030 target is more than five times the current target of 350 megawatt-peak (MWp) of solar energy by 2020. As of the second quarter of this year, some 260 MWp of solar capacity has already been installed. Singapore is on track to meet its 2020 target, said Mr Chan, who added that “one in two HDB rooftops” will be fitted with solar panels by then. Given Singapore’s space constraints, the Republic needs to come up with ways to maximise the number of solar panels installed here, said Mr Chan. He said that solar panels can be deployed on reservoirs, on top of rooftops or even on the vertical surfaces of buildings. "If we can do that, we will be able to significantly double the amount of space (available)," said Mr Chan. The Government is currently studying setting up floating solar panels in Bedok Reservoir and Lower Seletar Reservoir. For its part, national water agency PUB also announced in June this year that it intends to deploy Singapore’s first single large-scale 50 MWp floating photovoltaic (PV) system on Tengeh Reservoir by 2021.

I fully support clean energy but use of public funds must be accountable.

Victor68 Turbocharged September 19, 2020 Share September 19, 2020 I think it is again about needs and wants. We need to eat but not waste. Buy something, we need to bring it home but no need the excessive packaging like the japanese. Public transport is great but do we need big cars is questionable. Yeah, pay higher taxes for wants. Those that create more carbon footprint in the name of sustainability for self benefits should be single out.
