Yes this must put to stop, hope this kind of thing keep spread and make it big so that ministers in charge will take notice of it and then start to do something about it. Hack care about what insurance association meeting with relevant agencies. Maybe these people in the association are the one that just good at sweet talking and will talk the way out so as not to rock the boat.

MAS is the regulator of insurer.  MAS is under MoF.

Please escalate to both MAS and HSK.

Any increase in claims will be borne by insured.

Not forgetting that Singapore has no consumer protection.

A few years ago there was a case where a car hit a cement mixer that was coming out from a construction site to the main road. The traffic controller put up the lollipop sign to indicate to car driver to stop but somehow driver refused to stop (mixer was already well on the road) and end hit the cement mixer (or maybe she was dreaming, not sure). In any case, several months later the cement mixer company received a lawyer letter seeking damages.

So, while i am not exactly sire how the above came to be (as in why didn't the 2 insurance companies settle between themselves or car owner not satisfied with the outcome of the negotiation?), it does seem that it might be possible for car owners to instruct our insurer NOT to pay and settle in court instead.

Under 3rd party claims, it is car driver or its representative (i.e. WS) that will seek compensation from insurer of cement truck.

If car driver or its representative not satisfied with the quantum, lawyer will be engaged to seek compensation from cement truck.

What you said is no longer appliable.  That is call Knock for knock agreement.

Supercharged

Just to share my own experience.

A few years ago on TPE I was changing lane and half way in the mercedes taxi infront of me jammed brake so I langgar his backside. He suffered scratches on the rear bumper and my car front right headlight cracked, bumper out of alignment etc.

Got out of vehicle, exchanged particulars and took photos. I somemore good guy asked if he and his passenger are ok. He smiled and said ok, no worries, he rushing to send passenger to airport catch flight and went off.

Then his insurance claim came. KNS over $10k. Included a whole list of medical conditions as a result of the accident. what whiplash lah, what spinal injury lah, etc. And car repair included change of whole bumper, rear lights, etc.

Contacted my insurance company and had even sent them the video clip of the accident but end up I still really LL and nothing I could do even though I knew it was a very unjustified claim and case. Angry and disappointed with the car insurance mechanism in Singapore.

wait until you encounter malaysian cars..

who will ebrake at lane 1 after cutting into your lane..

Car repair/accident is a big business in SG

My wife had a side swipe accident in car park. My own repair cost is 300 only(scratch respray) but Income allows the other party to claim 8k+ in repairs. I called them to understand why so expensive cos its only scratches and the make is Mazda. After chasing for more than a week, they sent me a list of items the other party changed. I was amazed but nothing I can do.

Similarly, experienced this kind of INFLATED or FRADULENT claims.

Driver was cocky and walking around to take pictures, can claim S$4K for medical.

The Doctor should be fined and the surveyor, assessor and claims should be investigated.

Such acts only serve to increase premiums.

Happened to me as well, got into an accident (my fault) so the claimed amount came up to 5 figures. Planning to change insurer for renwal and with NCD dropped to 20%, should I switch from AD recommended insurer to self source?

Savings would be in the hundreds, though I can only get back 80% of 1 year's premium pro rated if I switch. Hmm..

I have my share of my own accident last year. Many say I should settle privately instead of reporting. It is motorists like me that cause such inflated claims.

Why do we buy insurance if we are discouraged from claiming legitimate accident? It is no secret accident claims are inflated but why loss adjusters for both parties are unable to verify? If it is so difficult,  then the appointment of these surveyors are nonsense.  Costs are passed back to consumers, which is the motorists who are required by law 5o purchase insurance. It is a very lucrative business and government backing all the way to the bank.
