Dun know which guy legalise this.

He should really research and relook again.

One moment says should push and next moment may cycle.

Really prata King. Many pedestrians and cyclists don't drive and hence lack the cognition of drivers.

Many mamils on the other hand probably drive and it's fascinating to see the lack of awareness they exhibited while they cycle.

It has to be the leotard/iron man suit. Has to be.

If a car is on the road without valid road tax, there is also a 50% chance that it is not insured. Do you wanna try your luck claiming from that fella, if it hits your car? :D

Lol... of cos not dun want to try lah. Then again, there are many cases that even insured also no use, such as drink driving.

To let cyclist cycle across  zebra crossing is giving them the benefit of the doubt. They will cycle slowly check clear then cross.

But this law have been abuse. How many time we seen cyclist zoom across zebra crossing without even reducing speed and checking

Seriously rider should really refrain from cycling across zebra crossing. Unless they are dead sure all vehicles have stopped. No pun intended.

Agree.

Should slow down to walking pace and look out on coming vehicles.

Many just whizz across quite quickly.

Speed is 1 thing. Must have the awareness of the situation and look out also

Jurong east there got a zebra cross that from very far away drivers can spot any cyclist coming. A few time i see cyclist  coming at full speed.  From far i already  slowly brake to let them cross.  Alot of time they give me eyes contact and raise their hand to acknowledge.

But got alot other crossing the cyclist is cycling along the path parallel  to the road. They turn in full speed without looking. This type is looking for fast way to hell.

You're right. It's obvious they aren't individual cyclists and they knew each other, so cycling side by side chit chatting while being oblivious to traffic behind is already a NO NO. They can argue its legal to ride abreast, since its a 3 lane carriageway, and THIS is correct according to Road Traffic Act. Even so, its still f**ked up riding as one is within the left filter lane, the other is already on the middle lane for turning right. Like I had always said, the pet peeve of mine on the roads nowadays is the insistence on the right of way. Drivers, cyclists, motorcyclists etc, all guilty of it.

In this instance, AMDK cyclist pair insist that's its their right of way to ride the way they did because they are turning right. Legally yes not wrong, but being oblivious to traffic is just poor situational awareness. Insistence on the right of way and the lack of consideration of other road users are the problems. Throw license plates and licensing on these AMDKs also won't change a damn thing, at most pay fines and kanna confiscate bikes only right?

maybe G can come out with some law say....

1st time offence - fine and demerit points

2nd time offence - fine, demerit points and confiscate bike

3rd time offence - fine, demerit points, confiscate bike and jail term

4th time offence - fine $100,000 and jail term not less than 1 yr....[laugh]

Not say cannot, if a demerit point system is useful, then a licensing frame work has to be in place first.

Just not too long ago, I think deeper and I've wrote a lengthy post here highlighting what are some of the grey areas and implications of bicycle licensing. The conclusion I had is that if it's that easily done, the govt would have already done so and made it a cashcow a long time ago even before the motorists protested. The foreseeable difficulties are mostly the grey areas of enforcement, the costs to administer the entire framework and even the overall effectiveness of it. All taxpayers including motorists had to chip in to administer the licensing system, just like Road Tax was paid for by all taxpayers not just motorists alone.

My take is that if it takes a licensing framework to change the cycling culture here and so to save an old granny from being run over by a cyclist when the lights are red, then so be it lah. Blame the black sheeps spoil market loh...

A paramedic pronounced the cyclist — a 49-year-old woman — dead at the scene.

In photos circulating on social media, a blue tent could be seen on a zebra crossing, with four police cars nearby.

Police investigations are ongoing.

E-scooter rider pleads guilty to causing death of 64-year-old cyclist

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/hung-kee-boon-escooter-death-64-year-old-cyclist-14740660

The court heard that Hung’s device was an unregistered Dualtron Ultra e-scooter, which Hung had purchased in 2018 for S$2,000 from a seller on online marketplace Carousell.

Hung had been aware that the PMD, which weighed about 44kg and had a top speed of between 75 and 80kmh, was “grossly non-compliant” with regulations when he purchased it, said Mr Kok.

Though the riding of e-scooters is allowed on cycling paths, Hung’s device would still have been prohibited from use as it was unregistered and non-compliant with regulations, he added.

Under the Active Mobility Act, such devices should weigh no more than 20kg and have a top speed of 25kmh.

Mr Kok pointed out that Hung would have been aware at the time that he was speeding because his device was equipped with a speedometer.

There were also rumble strips on the cycling path - grooves designed to indicate to cyclists and PMD riders that they should slow down, he said.

It is incumbent upon the rider to reduce the risk of collision, said Mr Kok, adding that the severity of Madam Ong’s injuries was indicative of the impact of the crash.

The prosecution also argued there was no contributory negligence on the part of the deceased.

While Madam Ong had not fitted her bicycle with headlights, Mr Kok argued that there was no evidence suggesting that the collision could have been avoided had such lights been equipped.

Noting this was the first case of a PMD user causing the death of another person while riding his device, the prosecution called for Hung to be sentenced to three months in prison, citing the need to deter others from riding recklessly.

Firstly the E-scooter rider is not insured, so that's no one to pay. Even if the judge award her family with $1M the rider definitely will not be able to pay. That's why mandatory insurance, registration and licensing for PMD riders is necessary in my opinion.

Secondly for the $13.6M awarded to the cyclist, a big portion goes to his loss of expected future income. He also need to employ caregiver to care for him.

That's the difference ba.

But do note the sentencing for the offender is more serious for the auntie case.

Compensation for personal injury need to employ lawyer to sue the offender
