jaewaie Neutral Newbie September 6, 2018 Share September 6, 2018 I need some advice on what to do with my car currently. It is a 2009/2010 Passat CC 2.0 Tsi, 6 speed DSG DQ250 About a month ago, my car started juddering at a stop light, foot on the brakes, the car wasn’t moving. It managed to engage the gears just fine for a few minutes after that. Then, at another stop light, the “D” indicator started flashing at the top right corner and the car was stuck in one gear. Drove to the side and restarted the car, everything was fine after that. After that one incident, I’ve only had the gearbox not engage once. This time, I shifter into N and back to D and everything was fine. However, now when I am driving, sometimes there will be a noise when the gears shift. From 2 to 3 and from 3 to 4. Mostly up shifts. Kinda like an abrasion noise. I have no idea what is wrong with the car, and I have went to multiple workshops to get it checked. There was an error code (P2711) and that’s about it. A few mechanics say it is clutched damage and suggested replacing the clutch, costing 1.8k. But I’m thinking, could it just be not enough transmission fluid? The noise doesn’t happen every time I shift, and when I shift manually, it doesn’t have the sound at all. Or maybe some electrical fault? ↡ Advertisement

So we can share experiences and I have plenty to learn. 1) When was the transmission oil last changed? Was it OEM or Stock? 2) The multiple workshops that you went to, any one of them specialises in VW? 3) Did you update anything recently, or fitted any aftermarket accessory related to engine/dsg? Or updated software? I know VW recently announced free software update, but I am questioning why they are doing this. What if they lower specs of our engines just to met emission requirements? 3) It could be some sporadic fault. Sometimes we tend to think of the gearbox like a conventional one with torque converter. But in fact it is not. So some juddering, especially at stop and go traffic is quite normal. I will suggest that you video it down to share it here..and perhaps the experts in this forum can comment before you dive into that $1.8k clutch replacement. I have no idea when it was last changed, because I recently just bought this car. In June 2018. 2. Well, they specialise in conti cars? And two of them are "transmission specialists". If you have any good workshop to recommend, please do. 3. Nope. Just changed the fuel pump control module as it was causing my car to stall sometimes when trying to move off. Also, I have had a lot of electrical problems with the car. One moment, the turn signal light can fail but the next moment, it will be working perfectly. The fuel pump control module also an electrical part. I had a dashcam installed when I got it, and I have a minor suspicion that it is the one causing all these electrical problems. The technician who installed it tapped on the IU unit in the car and it has shorted the unit a few times so both the IU unit and the camera would stop working. I went back to the shop to get it fixed and it has rectified the IU / camera problem at least. Could a small short like that actually mess up the entire car's electronics though? 4.The juddering is a one time thing. However, when the gearbox shifts from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4, sometimes it will have a very quick but audible abrasion noise. I'll try to film the noise, thanks. You can also contact VW Singapore to get the history of the maintenance done there if you have not done so. I got mine after the ownership transfer. All you need is to furnish them the log card from LTA and they will update the records and show you whatever that was done there. I got the history till 2015, and noted that the dual clutch kit was replaced in 2013. And also, it is always good to do a full major servicing after getting a used car. Knowing that DSG gearbox are so expensive, you should do a full oil change for that along with the other mandatory ones like engine oil, belt checks etc. Edited September 6, 2018 by CarMe

jaewaie Neutral Newbie September 11, 2018 Author Share September 11, 2018 Thanks! I just changed the gearbox oil to see if it helps. The sound is almost gone but I can still hear it sometimes. I'm still considering if I should change the clutch. Left around 2 years COE. What do you guys think? Better to change clutch or just ride it out? But if the sound comes back, 1.8K is not too much to repair and drive for another two years, keeping fingers crossed that that is the culprit, and that no other major failure occurs. Alternatively, instead of D, maybe can use tiptronic occasionally. ↡ Advertisement
