2020 Jeep Gladiator leaks online ahead of LA Auto Show debut

This is it! At least, we think this is it. According to a posting on JeepGladiatorForum.com, these images and texts for the 2020 Jeep Gladiator pickup truck were briefly posted on Fiat Chrysler's media site, and at least one enterprising individual managed to snag them before they were taken down. And, while everything is pretty much as we (and everyone else) have been expecting, it's also extremely big news and confirms some important information.

According to the leaked document, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator will come standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that can be mated to an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. We'd wager it'll offer the same 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque as in other Wranglerapplications. Bigger news is the optional 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. If it's in the same state of tune as it is in the Grand Cherokee, the Gladiator's dieselwill spin out 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.

The Gladiator's spec sheet lists its max tow rating at 7,600 pounds (probably with the diesel engine) and payload at 1,600 pounds. Two four-wheel-drive systems will be available, and beefy Dana 44 axles joined with electronic lockers front and rear should make the Gladiator a well-sorted off-road machine. Other noteworthy bits include an electronic swaybar disconnect and 33-inch tires.

One thing that the Jeep Gladiator will offer that no competitor can match is its open-air capability. We'd expect a soft top to be standard, and this document says two hard tops will also be offered. A five-foot bed offers practicality, and a fold-down windshield ought to please the purists. As for style, well, it's clearly a Jeep. And we mean that in a good way. See for yourself in the image gallery up above.

Nice to see in pix  but it will never land in our shores, until unless got strong backing and service

Even Ford has nice pickups (can be seen in Malaysia and Thailand and if I am not wrong made in Thailand only) but dont see here any. Really muscular look but dont know utility wise

Because the USA spec full size pickups are huge in size.

Even the smaller Ford Ranger sold here is quite big in our parking lots.

11.1-inch ground clearance, 30-inch fording ability

The JT truck will ride on a 204-inch (5,181-mm) frame, making it 31 inches (787 mm) longer than the Wrangler Unlimited. The truck has a 137-inch (3,480) wheelbase, adding 19.4 inches (492 mm) to thefour-door Wrangler’s wheelbase. The added length is necessary to accommodate the 5-foot (1,254-mm) steel bed.

Despite the massive footprint, the 2020 Gladiator will deliver an impressive off-road capability. In top Rubicon trim, it offers an 11.1-inch (282-mm) ground clearance, an approach angle of 43.6 degrees, breakover angle of 20.3 degrees, and departure angle of 26 degrees. It will also have 30-inch (762-mm) fording ability.

Compared to the Wrangler, it features bigger axles, brakes, wheels and a suspension with longer rear link arms set lower for better control and towing ability. As previously revealed, the 2020 Gladiator will have a 1,600-pound (725-kg) payload and a towing capacity of up to 7,650 lbs (3,470 kg).

V6 gasoline and diesel powertrains with six-speed manual or eight-speed auto transmissions

At launch, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator will offer a standard 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine rated at 285 hp and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque. The gasoline unit will be paired with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional eight-speed automatic driving all four wheels.

A diesel option will arrive in 2020 but it will only be available with the automatic transmission. There are no details about that engine, but it is likely to be an improved version of the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that also equips the Grand Cherokee and previous-generation Ram 1500. Said engine is expected to deliver 260 hp and 442 lb-ft (599 Nm) of torque.

The 2020 Gladiator will be the only convertible pickup truck on the market to offer a removable hardtop, a removable soft top or both. It’s also the only truck to offer a fold-down windshield.

Jeep says the bedsides are shorter and lower than on full-size trucks, for easier loading and unloading. The pickup’s tailgate will come with a halfway-down option as well.

The new truck will offer over 80 safety and convenience features, including an “Off Road +” button for driving on sand and rock crawling, a forward-facing camera, Off-Road Pages for the infotainment screen, and more.
