Walau eh, just drive like any  auto car. If MU spoils, just change it.

So stress for what ? Buy a car to stress oneself, seriously . .....

stressed about how to drive it "correctly", stressed about WHEN it will break.

life is just too hard with a DSG.

for me i just enjoy the superiority of the GB and when time comes for required parts replacement, be prepare for it.

Made the informed decision and lives with it.

I am new to a DSG gearbox (been only a week) so would welcome some advice.

  1. When going up the incline in HDB car park, my VW Golf 1.4TSI seems remarkably reluctant. I do know why this is happening - as I approach the incline I need to slow down (brake) and turn right to get onto the slope. The DSG gearbox thinks I am going to stop, so it is not in the right gear as I complete my turn. Opening the throttle slightly does not move the car up the incline, and with more throttle it moves too quickly.

  2. Also I have noted that when going down the incline in HDB car park, when you take your foot off the brake, and step on the accelerator, it seems reluctant to get going again. Again, I do know why this is happening... the DSG gearbox thinks I am going to stop, so it is not in the right gear as I complete my turn

Have you encountered the same issue, and do you have any techniques, or is it just a matter of getting used to it?

Been driving AT & CVT, and none of them had this issue.

Thanks in advance,

Naresh.

I suppose you are able to see the gear that the car is engaged to, which only DSG gearbox commonly can. You will observe that when the car seems reluctant to move up accompany with a loud wailing noise, most likely the car is in the wrong gear (higher gear) thus have no power to move up. Try to slow down till it is 2nd gear before it reach the ramp, then it will move up without any drama.

As for downhill run, just tap more on accelerator and it will work fine.

Jus typical characteristics of DSG gearbox.

Nowadays the gearboxes will do the thinking, they think for you so they will do what is right for you and themselves so leave the job to them and just focus on your part, left right straight or reverse

In general, treat the DSG as you would a manual, and don't do the things you wouldn't do on a manual. E.g, creep forward at low speeds at half-clutch position for extended duration, esp up slopes, etc.

Dual-clutch set-ups are superior in shift response and fuel economy compared to a conventional auto with torque converter.

They do need a bit of TLC though, and treating it as you would a manual is a good start.

Agreed

Having said that not all driver driven a manual or know how to drive a manual. Now most are class 3A license.

DCT is a good for those who want manual transmission characteristic without handling a clutch. Some adaption is required like being gentle on the accelerator for a moment, before flooring it when taking off. But these are quite minor. Ur right leg will still drive like an auto car.

It sure make your driving more exciting than a lifeless CVT which give u the experience of a single speed transmission. That is only suited for tortoises on the road  :D

200k on DSG or conventional torque converter?

DSG, someone here posted but quite a while ago.

I wouldn't expect a conventional torque convertor to last 200k without any sort of issues, let alone DSG with it's more complicated tech.

But I would still take DSG (wet) anytime for the smooth & lightning shifts

Heat kills auto gearboxes.

To extend life add an oil cooler.

:D

dry DSG is air cooled. may be need special cooling fan for dry DSG so that can endure the multiple hours of jam at causeway
