To implement this, they will have to remove majority of the public trash bins like they do in other countries. Everyone got to bring their own trash home to throw. Once the public bins are gone, one wonder how the littering problem could be returning. In our tropical climate, litters not cleared will rot within a day, that's why we one of the very few, if not the only country to clear our trash daily.

this aint gonna work because our “culture” and “civic duties” level still far away

Why our gahmen is more and more like our neighbours? Create agencies to come out with stupid proposal and bring additional hassle to the public. They should be reminded that we are their boss. If their performance lackluster we can fire them...... that is IF we are united. :D

Really what the.. Throwing rubbish to the bin should be free for all. Singapore is getting more and more ridiculous to live in with each new policy in place.. Haiz..

I think those working in the government agencies that deal with policy should understand the difference between free of right to do things and need to charge to do things.

Things like throwing rubbish to the bin should be free of right for people to throw right?

I sincerely hope that the one who recommend this idea should not be promoted to higher rank. Imagine this guy can recommend this, I can't imagine when he promoted to even higher rank will propose even more damaging things like charging people to drink water in water cooler in schools, charging for people who walk on public road and the list goes on. It's very damaging to Singapore prosperity..

If it's really about sustainability, then follow Japan's way of sorting out trash and recyclables.

Pay for overuse and bad behaviour is good idea. Those who are cooperative and responsible pay less or free. Anyway, also good to pay more to the workers who clean and pick up after irresponsible citizens.

If not too many stubborn residents never teach their kids and housekeepers to bag sloppy food waste and separate recyclables. Empty drinks can throw down the chute.

Uncooperative, irresponsible and ungracious residents should be penalised with higher charges.

For too long, HDB residents lazy and entitled. Even free collection of bulky items they ignore and carelessly dump. After renovations dump the waste down the chute.

We must force better behaviour, no choice. Certain part of the citizenry are irresponsible and ungracious but like to complain and grumble as if they are saints.
