Nissan showroom in Bukit Timah calling it a day

SINGAPORE - Motor group Tan Chong is shutting down its Nissan showroom in Bukit Timah after being there for nearly four decades.

 

The last motor facility in the area, the showroom was opened in 1982.

 

The home-grown motor group, listed in Hong Kong, said it is closing its showroom because of "falling footfall", referring to declining number of customers visiting the Bukit Timah address.

 

It will instead focus on its two other showrooms in Ubi and Leng Kee, sites of Singapore's two "motor belts".

 

Mr Ron Lim, head of sales and marketing at Tan Chong Motor, said: "We review our operations from time to time to ensure that our resources are optimised. In line with the reduction in COE quotas, we have seen a fall in showroom traffic at Bukit Timah and we have decided to consolidate Nissan's showroom operations at Leng Kee and Ubi.

 

"Our service centre at Bukit Timah will continue to serve customers. "

Looks like most of the car showrooms are centralise at leng kee and ubi area.

Maybe got developer offer big money for them to sell? You know, property in Bukit Timah is prime location for luxury residences and they are surrounded by it.

 

It's just closing one of their branches. I wouldnt say they call it a day as the group carries other car brand as well, not just Nissan.

don't need developer. Tan Chong themselves have property arm. They did it in Malaysia

Nissan's glory days of selling cars (Sunny) like hotcakes are over. Their latest models are meh and other Japanese brands are overtaking it in terms of sales.

 

This downsizing wont be just TC's Bukit Timah branch if Nissan japan dun want to innovate themselves and make better models.

 

PS: Except for their Infiniti models of course, which are sold thru different AD.

Unless you like spending big $$ on antiques... not that current Nissan lineup has any collector's value... 

 

You compare the current superbly old Bluebird Sylphy with say, Mazda 6, upcoming G12 Corolla, Civic, and ANY sedan offerings from the Koreans, which decade was the Bluebird from? That engine really weak and poor FC and then that sleep inducing Nissan CVT. Handling is downright cheap and wobbly. 

 

Its the utter lack of equipment and sophistication that makes pple looked elsewhere

Think sylphy all the while not a seller la. But their qashqai seems quite good sales le?! Guess nissan here is well known for their march and sunny decade ago. But seems like nissan cars suddenly become no longer popular after they have stopped selling sunny?

Actually the Sunny back in the early 2000s were quite a nasty car also. Poor engine refinement and high FC are just some of the issues. And the car looked cheap even by early 2000s standards. When the Hipporolla arrived, the N16 Sunny suddenly looked like a Dino. 

 

Anyway Sylphy IS the current Sunny. Nissan just used a different name. Most western markets used the Sentra name though. 

 

The current OMG Almera was aka Sunnies in some 3rd world markets also. 

 

Well there is the 2020 Sylphy. As nice as it looks, do not be fooled. It is just a remodeled Renault Megane and most styling bits, esp the cabin, are easily over 2 yrs old. Unfortunately Nissan has no plans to use Renault engines in this new model. So the current weak 1.6L continues..

So the sales start to drop after they changed the name from sunny to sylphy?! The early 2000s sunny was such a popular car than the corolla during that era lo. Almost every household owned the 1.5L EX or 1.6L SS trim. Until now i still dont understand why that sunny was poor engine and high FC?

In the year 2000 to 2004, there were 2 models of Nissan sunny sold by Tan Chong

 

1) n16 sunny

 

2) b15 sunny aka sunny vip

 

The n16 gave the Nissan brand a bad name as the engine was not v fuel efficient and there was the famous stalling when doing 3 point turn, which Tan Chong didn’t want to admit but ultimately issue a recall and fix those affected mainly the pre face lift n16 sold from 2000 to 2002.

 

The b15 on the other hand was a far better model , my driving instructor back then in 2002 use it and he said fuel consumption is pretty decent though I did remember the back seat was v v cramp !
