Should ask which school as it's the school that teach the kid to raise hand when crossing the road so that the driver can see them. So school teach the kid to raise hand but never tell them raise hand when jay walking is dangerous especially when the kid expect the driver to stop to let them cross the road just like at at traffic light junction and zebra crossing.

I think all if not most school teach to raise hand when crossing. My son primary school did.

Maybe this kid just been to Vietnam during recent school holiday so practice just walk won’t get bang as long as don stop don turn back

Don't understand this.

Is hand raised to ask if can cross before crossing?

Or is hand raised when crossing and if so how does this stop a car who hasn't seen son.

Or is hand raised as a thankyou when car has already stopped.

Or is there another reason.

Not stereotyping but could it be a AT student.

It is after all their culture to cross the road like that. [lipsrsealed]

Vaguely remember... a child psychologist once cited the importance of words towards a young child. They tend to register the last word being said. For example “don’t run” or “不要跑”

That boy might have reacted to the adult at the centre median strip... “不要过来”

I always used “stop!” or “停!” ...when my kids were very young....maciam like when we played the child game A-E-I-O-U...everyone must stop at “U”

Raise hand to increase visibility as kids not so tall esp when talking abt lorries or king kong

Imo, raising doesn't help much to increase visibility.

They should be wearing high visibility clothing instead, bright orange, bright lime, reflective clothing.

But then, it's a lot more difficult than telling children to raise their hands.

Difficult to incorporate Hi-viz components into the school uniforms... Too hype liow...

And we can't expect them to carry a vest with them every where they go.

So the deciding factor here can only be the accompanying adult.

Kids are short, they raise hands so drivers can see them when using zebra crossing.

Ya, anything too complicate or too expensive, people will not follow.

Raise the hand will be a simple way to follow first. All "Hi-Viz" idea, it is up to parents to don their kids.

Nothing wrong with kids raising their hands.

Most important is not to get hit by a moving car.

No one ever died from raising their hands.

People died when they got hit by a car.

:D
