Joshua Wong looks like ethnic chinese.

At the end of vietnam war and mid 1975 to 1980, there was widespread fleeing from vietnam by refugees (the boat people).

There are 3 reasons why they fled,
- people who used to be affiliated to the south vietnam govt (many hundreds of thousands were kept in re-education camps, some for as long as 16 years)
- for some reason, the vietnam govt started persecuting ethnic chinese in particular (could be due to tension between PRC and vietnam). A substantial percentage who fled are ethnic chinese living in vietnam.
- the economy collapsed, mass unemployment with severe food shortages/famine
