Try ask the younger SG....many without good knowledge why communism removed. Most care about the money opportunities.... 😑

“.....This is a generation that believed in me and my “Old Guard” colleagues because they saw us stand up and fight back against the communists...”https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/we-had-expose-communists

With Communism, you will not have a modern Singapore like now.

Actually what define china as communism?

China nowadays are more like authoritarian govt with fusion of totalitarian and economy of socialist open market.

Communism has long dead, its not viable. CHina govt may shout communism but they don’t. Thanks to Deng

For that Suzhou Industrial Park, LKY with his brilliant mind learnt that risk about investments in China. He did point the difficulties arose in signing agreements with the central government that were then implemented by local officials who "have their own imperatives".

How much has their central government and local officials changed since Suzhou Industrial Park. Just be more cautious about investments in China.

National Patriotic Education was rejected by HKer.

For CCP national patriotic education, you have to love both.  Even you love country ONLY also cannot.  Even party is in the wrong, you can't openly criticise it.

The resentment is mainly due to TOO many.  Currently, we have only 3.4m tourist from China.  Can you imagine when we have 10m of China Tourist?  In 2018, there was 51m China Tourist visits HK.

I guess china value respect for authority.  Not sure if its extreme.  History plays a part in this.  Historically china has always been under one sovereign or another.  Except when under chang kai shek and I am not confident in saying he is not really a dictator as well.

As for tourists I guess it cant be helped.  You have a populous and wealthy rich neighbour connected to you by land (same country as well).  I guess malaysia might be saying the same thing about singapore.  People in Hong Kong do benefit from the tourists as well (those in the industry) so its not exactly one sided in the benefits.  But why resent?  It's kind if like resenting the fact that I have too many customers in my shop....

I do understand the issues with overcrowding.  As far as I know, nothing is stopping hong Kongers from going to China to take advantage of space there.  So the resentment is not merely the large numbers of china tourists but more like they want to be separate from china and they want Hong Kong to be their safe space.  They might not hate china citizens initially but as they come in ever larger numbers, it's like their safe space is being invaded and hence the resentment on top of the fact that they do see themselves as superior to mainland chinese.

My two cents.

CKS also a dictator la. Taiwan only enjoy election like in the 80s. KMT back then also totalitarian.

And democracy also has its flaw. Democracy itself not perfect. Democracy made Hitler rose to power lol

Maybe. Probably they want ‘democracy’ and don’t want to be called ah tiong...haha. To be frank, we don’t live in HK so won’t know how China is affecting HK people life in terms of education, housing, etc.

To be frank, only the few thousands is rioting and not millions. The majority did not find living in HK as revolting as the few thousands to the point they need to hurt their own people (including to the extent of bullying old folks and women etc), twist the facts-lies and deceit, burnt  buildings, stop people from going to work etc.  Where are their conscious and integrity. All they have done is sabotage and terrorise the HK society.  Contribute nothing and outcome will still be nothing but only gain by bringing their own beloved country to it knees and many of its own people down. If they really want a change for HK, why dont they just study hard (this is the cause for students) and contribute to the society than going into full destructive mode. No reasons for such actions and stop finding excuses for their actions. Wrong means wrong. If we start finding excuses then everything also becomes justifiable in the eyes of some.

I would say both. They use anti ccp as an excuse for anti china

most black rioters don’t see themselves as chinese but hongkie

Haha...I dont understand why some people say they only anti CCP and not China especially we are Singaporeans. CCP did not rule them, did not tekan them, did not take anything from them, did not treat them unfairly yet they hate CCP ?   I dont think so too and it is just an excuse for using anti CCP for another cause.  Hypocrite.

Take note of the gradual phasing out of preferential policies for foreign companies is likely to continue in China.
