Yes, I have driven a VW for a few days. It's really nice to drive, but the gearbox is the joker.

If you're lucky, you don't get any problems. If you're down on your luck, it's MU failure after failure.

With so many horror stories about VW's MU failure, I'm not surprised at all.

I also have a few friends who never went back to VW after their first one.

Vw gearbox is well known for its problems. Why do people still buy vw when they already know this??

my friend bought a new VW which came with 5-year gearbox warranty.

heard the car was in and out with minor ailments every now and then, final straw was when one day the car had only gear 1, 3 and 5 ... and VW took quite a long time to fix.

so he sold off in the 4th year.

vw gearbox problem is the dry clutch nia.

i recently just bought a 2009 golf GTI but it's the 6spd wet clutch.

with the amount I paid for a COE car, I would have gotten the brand new avante basic model instead.

But after thinking, buying a COE "premium conti car"(if you compare GTI to a  normal golf of cos) rather than getting a basic korean car. i choose the latter..

thats just me...

Their models are rather dated liao. Roc and Beetle been around for years.

The Arteon which is nice is too expensive.

I guess those potential buyers are either going upstream by buying the A3 and A4, or choosing the more VFM Skoda instead.

Not to mention Passat is overpriced.

I know that I won't strike toto, doesn't stop me from buying twice a week [;)]

most of my friends that buy VW tho, all value face/status over the reliability factor ba... that's why buy those super low depreciation roc/golf second hand..

Because generally there is only one version which is problematic, the dq200 dry 7 speed.

All the others are fine.

By the way, even if it’s the dq200, it has improved. No doubt the VW brand is affected by that, but for newer models there hasn’t been much complaints (VW Group cars like Audi, Skoda, Seat).

So don’t see anything wrong with buying. Some people value the driving experience as opposed to reliability. If you haven driven a DSG gearbox, go try it and you will know why.

Because the dsg driving feel so much better than any other mass market auto trans. At most fork out another 5k if anything happens but they seemed to have rectified the issue. You only see non owners talking about it. Haven’t seen any new outrage over it from the owners.

How much is a clutch replacement for DSG?

Do both clutches need replacement at the same time or can replace just the one that’s worn?
