闭门造车

The English meaning of 闭门造车bì mén zào chē is:

1 lit. to build a cart behind closed doors

2 to be overly subjective and disregard the outside world (idiom)

In ancient times, there was a man who wanted to make a fine cart. But, instead of learning how to do it form experts, he shut shimself up at home and worked at it. Despite the time and effort he spent on it, the cart was useless. This chinese idiom means to make a cart behind closed doors or to work behind closed doors; divorce oneself from the masses and from reality; act blindly. It is also used metahhorically to mean being too subjective and disregrading the rest of the world.

Just like paper generals telling private companies how to run their business

nothing new.

The current ERP on expressways and petrol duties already do this. Pay for cheaper housing (away fm city center) but pay more for fuel and ERP.

The key is in the actual rate tables and timings, which have yet to be published.

Says who?

From what I can gather in this thread, 99% of car owners will opt for the much smaller and simpler single piece motorcycle IU for ERP 2.0, if given the option.

We don't want stupid big ass touchscreen to give us info which we don't need and a processing unit/antenna combo add-on which look like a design afterthought. Since this IU is just a device meant for us to pay and pay, then all it needs to do is to deduct $$$ and just tell us how much is left. Then the slimmer motorcycle IU already serves the purpose isn't it? Some more its weather proof and resistant to direct sunlight exposure.

No need for additional gimmicks such as real time traffic etc which can done better by mobile apps with frequent updates, thank you very much.

It depends, like it for taxi driver or phv drivers, some would prefer the touchscreen design. Coz they need to know exactly how much to charge rider when in erp zone.

Agree, let taxis and phvs have their touchscreens but don't turn other people's cars into taxis and phvs

Distance based ERP will kill the taxi trade?  Must use apps to book and who pays for the vehicle to get to you?

If the unit durability is good due to the 3-piece design, I'm fine with it. It should be quite costly to replace if it is faulty. The current simple IU already cost $100+, so I expect the replacement cost to be easily $300+.

how can we let our voices be heard instead of typing it here?

OYK says they have heard and he has given us his response to their received feedback, which essentially telling us to LLST.

Perhaps MPS will be more impactful.

I don't agree.

Only the 1st and 4th statement is true.  Heehee

Unless there is a gross negligence or oversight, 2nd and 3rd statement may not always be true.

Normally,  the manager will form a committee to investigate and put up measures such as new procedures, re-training etc and prevent recurrence.  Some civil servants messed up, ministers will come out and say things like 'No Blame Culture' and 'Honest mistake, let's move on'

Ya agree. Especially with 3rd statement. Where is the hiri kiri we were promised?
