HP_Lee 5th Gear July 5, 2019 Share July 5, 2019 Besides those that mentioned, all conti car are like that. Once after 4-5 years, the maintenance expenses shoot-up. Normally, one who used to drive conti cars is preparing to off load after the warranty period. They know the problem ahead. Normally, also this are the people whom above middle income. Deprecation are typical very high. The more efficient and practical cars are still the Toyota , Hyundai and KIA. Honda and Mazda maintenance expenses are generally higher than those 3 mentioned. Do agree, that people tend to look at OMV and forget the running cost along the life time of the the car. So far I see Toyota and KIA striking a balance between OMV and running cost. Maybe to the extend of Hyundai. Skoda is only good while its warranty lasts. After that the maintenance will quickly negate all of its high OMV/ initial value for money. Same applies to VW, Renault and Citroen. It is no doubt. Amazing that they could not even come out with more interesting range of colours from one model to the other, let alone design. But it is a very practical car and that is why it sells well. It compromised its design for practicality. Understand LTA is going to reduce further COE quota in next Qtr. This period indeed a go time to change car. Current coe level is quite good to buy a new car provided you are happy with the price. You never know when it will bounce back up again. ↡ Advertisement
RogerNg_185295 6th Gear July 5, 2019 Share July 5, 2019 Ya all the conti brands have trouble fighting in the b&b segment because they dont have supply chain to provide us good cheap parts. So they've all tried to go a bit upmarket in their branding. But trying to pretend Seat, Skoda or Renault are premium brands will make the Europeans laugh at you These are just entry level conti brands. It's no where near premium status. No wonder Toyota can priced their cars more and more ex, cause if people want an efficient and practical and not so high running cost, no choice but to pay for the premium price. Lala81 Hypersonic July 5, 2019 Share July 5, 2019 (edited) wah haha quite anti-non premium conti here ar... What's maintenance cost when your OMV is 17k for a 103-104k car? Ultimately your paper value is still crap anyway no? The guy taking in your car for trade in or sale is not going to listen to you talk about maintenance cost. ok lah. buy what u like. The truth is not many manufacturers are now going to give u an absolutely dismal ownership experience. Even if it's the french or non-premium contis. Competition has forced everyone to get better. The absolute horror shows are less likely to happen nowadays. Of course that comes at the price of parts sharing even across brands. HP_Lee 5th Gear July 5, 2019 Share July 5, 2019 Entry level BB conti brand , are for those wannabe conti status. But nowhere near. End up paying high price and higher maintenance. The upper class will go for premium range of conti cars, not the entry level. If one is middle income, it is advisable not to over spend on entry level conti cars. Is better to get a upper range of the Japs and Korean made. Now, those cars are better built than before. It is gaping up in terms of safely aspect. Some comes with 6 to 7 airbags and better steel structure. Anyway, whatever cars it is. Once out of the showroom , eventually is heading towards scrap value. This is Singapore, not other place, that one can keep their cars without renewing a piece of paper after 10 years. These are just entry level conti brands. It's no where near premium status.

Driving an entry level conti brand is still looks more atas than driving a upper range jap/korean brand for some people lo. This is why nowadays those entry level conti brand is so common and popular.

Scaredcloud Clutched July 5, 2019 Share July 5, 2019 Some people 20k income but want to drive entry level japanese cars too! haha I think it makes sense that the car price is lower than 30% of annual income while the maintenance cost below 10% of monthly income. Jamesc Hypersonic July 5, 2019 Share July 5, 2019 So a person earning $100,000 a year should only buy a $30k car? COE car also more expensive than that.
