we are pretty much down to barebones @ both FB positions.. so i guess will see Gomez and Lewis deputizing there as and when needed

 

you left out Milner ... who had covered LB/RB last season

Milner's not bad, but he did struggle - badly too - against Zaha... We need FBs that are fast...

Well, I guess like what bro Vegas and many of us said , Robertson needs cover at left back... dun believe ask Dr Lala, one long term injury to Robbo and we see Milner, Gomez, Larouci or Lewis starting at left back.

Personally i will prefer Gomez covering at left back since Lovren is staying. The only thing is we will not see Gomez running down the left flank like Robbo.

 

The right back position is the same. One 6-week medical leave for TAA and we will see Gomez, Milner, Hoever or even Lallana (LOL) covering there.

 

If we can see it, Klopp and the entire coaching staff plus medical team will be able to see it as well.

 

Maybe there isn't a suitable player in the market at the right price willing to come be 2nd choice left back?

 

Maybe Klopp is indeed using his big section of midfielders to be spare tyre?

 

Maybe Klopp will alter the shape of the team when one of the 1st choice full backs are out? During the community shield game, Gomez was deployed at right back after TAA was nullified by Man City's exploitation of the space behind him. When we are attacking, Gomez tuck in to form a 3 man defense with Robbo pushed up higher. The end result is 4-3-3 when defending and 3-4-3 when attacking. Instead of the deep lying playmaker sitting back, one of the fullbacks gets tucked in. To be able to make changes to the shape and formation, it is very important that the team is used to playing with each other. Remember when we used to buy 3 to 5 first team players to strengthen the team and end up destroying the balance of the team?

 

And if you follow last season's game, we actually do not need full backs most of the time. Our wing backs are operating as a winger in opponent half most of the time.

 

As much as I hope we signed an experienced value-for-money right/left back who can defend well, tackle hard plus attack with lightning speed, yet willing to be second choice and might not even feature on the bench, lets see what this crazy German has up his sleeves...

Milner is very important. He is more important than the captain. He has to cover Robbo, TAA, Hendo, Keita, AOC, Lallana. Remember there was one season where he and Emre Can just cover duty for almost all the midfield and defensive casualties. Klopp rather go to him even when Moreno and Clyne was around. Luckily we signed Adrian. Else we might see him wearing gloves.

 

Anyway if Klopp decide to let Gomez cover and tuck in when attacking, we might really see Lallana as a deep lying playmaker recycling the ball for Keita and AOC to support the 3 front men... can even take out Robbo and throw in Shaqiri.. ultra attacking formation that will be mouthwatering yet scary. Luckily Lallana loves reporting to medical centre and Klopp probably not as crazy as me

dunno why pool must b season opener n 1 day earlier. shouldnt it b the champions to open the season? or pool attract more viewership ?
