looks like Timo Werner will be at the Bridge, not at Pool. BBC and Echo has more or less confirmed it.  Strange the Echo has to detailed so many articles why Timo is not coming to Pool. To give it credit, the Echo was one of the few media who kept drowning the imminence of this deal and kept repeating that no formal talks have been held bet Klopp and player. It has now been confirmed as such.

With the release fee fixed all along, it was always up to the player in terms of choosing his destination.  Chelsea is offering huge wages ~ 200K/w.  No way Pool will be paying such salary for a player who is uncertain to play regular 1st team football.

To put things in perspectives, it will be better than not for Pool to have Timo in the squad. No question about that all. He has the potential to be as good as the front 3 today.  But, it is still a question of uncertainty. Pool is not desperate as the front 3 is settled and looks like they will all stay for the next 1-2 seasons. No hurry for klopp to splash the cash to get Timo in.

In the end, I do feel Timo probably made the right decision for his own career. At Chelsea, he will be playing week in week out and immediately be the main star of the squad. If he comes to pool, he may find himself warming the bench for at least the initial phrase.  Klopp probably can't guarantee him a starting place and to keep a 200k/w player on the bench is just not being a good steward of the finances.

When we put all these together, it is looking increasingly wise for Klopp to walk from this deal.  We still have Taki and Origi so we are not desperately short of cover.

There is a theory, Timo wanted guaranteed game time which like u mentioned, more chance of him getting it at Chelsea than Pool so could be despite his preference for Pool, his head ruled over his heart?

Speculative theory but it is a fact that top players coming in may not want to join if they can't get game time and that is something for Pool to ponder over as they will face this issue be it Mbappe, Sancho, Havertz, Haaland etc

U can't be depending on the fearsome 3 forever but make the wrong move and bring in someone that upsets the team ethics and u will also be in trouble. That's why Klopp is paid so much to make this kind of decisions.

So confusing

Quote

Manchester United and Chelsea have each dropped a clue that Timo Werner is Liverpool-bound, according to transfer expert Ian McGarry. Werner is a top target for Liverpool ahead of the next transfer window, with the German having several conversations with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp in recent months. However, both United and Chelsea have also shown interest in the 24-year-old RB Leipzig striker.

But McGarry believes new deals for Odion Ighalo and Olivier Giroud in recent days suggest Werner will not be moving to either Manchester or west London.

Ighalo has had his loan move at United from Shanghai Shenhua extended until next January.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have activated the one-year extension in Giroud's contract to keep him at the club for another season.

McGarry says neither club would have made that move if they thought they had a chance of signing Werner, as they already have first-choice strikers in the shape of Anthony Martial and Tammy Abraham.

And therefore he reckons it is an indication that both clubs know Werner is on his way to Liverpool.

McGarry said on the Transfer Window podcast: "I think it's no coincidence that Chelsea and Manchester United, the two clubs who have been cited and circulated as possible suitors, the ones Leipzig hope to use as a leverage tool to get Liverpool to basically agree the €60million buyout clause, have in the last three days re-signed their two strikers, or you could say second-choice strikers, Olivier Giroud agreeing a new deal at Chelsea and obviously Odion Ighalo has signed until January.

"Now, that tells you a lot given that both clubs have first-choice strikers - in Chelsea's case Tammy Abraham and in Manchester United's Anthony Martial.

"These are the things that you look to in transfer stories, transfer information, with regards to the likelihood of any given deal going through, whether it's one club or another.

Liverpool's first game back vs. Everton will be on Sunday, June 21, kicking off at 7pm.

Meaning Monday morning wee hours for us?

Why they always put Liverpool games so late one?

Why never let us play at 8pm or even 11pm on Sat nights?

So many times already.

Anyway Pool always wins when we play at funny times.

Hope Arsenal City game is 2 - 2 draw.

Arteta knows all the weakness of every City player.

In the past the practice is for crowds/fans to attend the matches in the stadiums and TV live game shows domestically are only selectively shown in uk to maximimise club's matchday revenues.

The above 3 fixture times are essentially to cater to the primetime UK hours since the brits will be watching in front of their TVs given that live attendances are not permitted because of covid-19.

Actually however nocturnal our local times being played, the scores will be empathatically Pool to win..... so you sleep through the nocturnal hours with a big smile and watch the replay later at your own time own convenience on youtube....hahha

Some folks here already consistently predicted 1-0 Pool win.  🤣

If u think Timo is expensive, wait till Kai Havertz, Jadon Sancho or Erling Haaland moves. Then u will then know what is expensive. Mauro Icardi, another top goalscorer moved to PSG for more or less the same fee as Timo n he is 4 yrs older.

Yes post Covid, we wont know what the market level is, likely lower but how low? There is a theory Pool wanted to wait as next summer, Timo's release clause will be 36mil but like the 142mil package being mentioned, this is all speculation.

Chelsea feels he is worth that amount, Pool doesn't. Time will tell who is right. Buying players is always a gamble. Like bro Fooblack says, maybe Pool feels not worth to pay for a player not guaranteed first X1 place but when Mane and Salah goes to AFCON in January, we shall see whether Origi n Mina are adequate or perhaps Pool is saving their ammo for a better player?

Internet is rife with speculation from Pool owners being skint to Chelsea being carrot head. U take your own pick, cheers!

that's why i can't comprehend. Teams like Barca and RM are the traditional culprits, driving up the prices of players sky high. Then all these expensive players also never see them always performing to/above expectations. Look at Coutinho and Griezmann, no guarantee also. Becos of them, gone are the days when good players can be had for 20-30 mil...

Yes, likely Pool doesn't feel it's worthwhile to spend too much on a player, who might not make a big difference - like the way VVD and Allison did - to the current team.

On the other hand, Chelsea having started the rebuild under Lampard, could be thinking that he's a valuable piece of the jigsaw, so it could turn out to be a master piece of business.

You're right that during AFCON, that's the real challenge. So far, there's no obvious solution at that time... 😓

Post covid have to be careful. The finances of the club are bit precarious for year 2020 and maybe 2021 if audiences are not allowed back.

It's one additional year for the squad players to develop somemore.

U want to do a big deal this year, 90% of them are just not going to happen. All these media hype are simply just BS.
All the clubs are paying wages and getting zero income in. And broadcasters are trying to claw back money from the clubs (which LFC is opposing). Expect lot of free transfers, budget players at the season's end.

I agree finances of the many clubs may be very different from pre COVID-19. I think LFC know what they are doing.

Is any of Firminho, Mane and Salah leaving? If not, we can afford not to buy for another season if we are keeping all our attacking options e.g. Origi, Shaqiri, Minamino, Brewster, Elliot, Wilson, etc. If Herr Klopp can help Minamino perform 90% ( like what he did with his previous club) and find a way for Origi and Shaqiri to chip in more, we have more than enough fire power.

Bare in mind that every club will be affected financially by CoVID19 and we are blessed with a team that doesnt need much tweaking...

I think we need to replace midfielders soon... Lallana contract is up. Milner is not getting younger and he is usually rested as cover for the full backs. Is Gini going to leave? We have Ox and Hendo reaching 30 in a couple of years? Fabinho has been found out in the past few games prior to Covid shut down. Dont think Chirivella will feature prominently and the only bright spark is future captain Jones.

Lovren should be leaving and we need another 1st team CB if Matip and Gomez gets injured at the same time. How about Adrian? He has done well but i think we should have a boring and stable 2nd choice goalie.

We have a relatively stable first 11 during the beginning of this season. We should have a stable first 11 plus bench at the beginning of next season. If we dont get Werner, sign Willian from Chelsea and spend the money on a young promising midfielder and a back up goalie. Fabinho can cover CB if we have enough midfielders to rotate.

After all the Tim saga, i believe pool did the right thing.

We have mino and keita for attacking option. We don't need more to warm the bench.
