If you’ve ever wanted to work at the Istana, now might be your chance.

The official residence and office of the President of Singapore has put up a job advertisement on the Careers @ Gov portal.

The opening? A butler position.

Responsibilities

Under the title “Assistant Senior Butler/ Butler”, the advert says that the responsibilities include providing hospitality services, along with food and beverages to guests at the Istana.

Butlers will also have to perform housekeeping duties such as readying the Istana for events, setting up ceremonial props or tables, and helping in various places such as the kitchen, linen room or floral arrangement room.

There is even an opportunity for applicants with relevant past working experience to be appointed at a higher level, leading a team of butlers and performing other administrative and logistical duties.

In order to apply, applicants must be Singapore citizens, and if successful, will be offered a one or two year contract in the first instance.

Look Malay. But IC says Indian.

I think they should have a Presidential Butler Election.

Which just means that they will set ridiculous criteria (like must have managed a major global hotel chain, been rated 5 stars by Michelin guide, and cleaned the White House Presidential Jamban with a golden toothbrush) and many poor hopefuls will apply and they will reject everyone and appoint the one they wanted to anyway, heedless of their own criteria.

So no worries for them since this is how elections apparently work now.

But at least this way, there will be another World first for Singapore - first democratically elected Presidential Butler.

And right before N day too. What an honour.

:D

Never before.. have citizens been asked..

To do so much, for so little..

To serve someone, who do so little, while paid so much..

This is proof how the system is so broken and so in need of a reboot..

Must read carefully the 'fine print' .....

It said there that to do some housekeeping works, prepare for functions, etc ..... and housekeeping means, mop the floor, wash the toilets, sweep the car porch, .... etc.

No much different from hiring a Indon maid ... :slow:

Indon is a nice word. Basically Malay but it sounds like Indian.
