Spring Moderator March 11, 2020 Author Share March 11, 2020 From what I have read so far, EPL will play behind closed doors if the situation worsens but now La Liga and Serie A has gone 1 step further by suspending the League for a few weeks. I don't know how they going to catch up with their games. This Man C v Arsenal postponement has also thrown a spanner into the works as staff have been exposed and if more staff from different clubs are also exposed then even playing behind closed doors will not work anymore. What will happen to the competition ie relegation, European places etc. Pool shld be safe as they shld be able to wrap up their title soon. Looks like my constant gripe that they too focused on the title till domestic Cup games are somewhat neglected is wrong as now it seems the earlier they get the title the better for them as the League might not be completed. Financial and Legal issue aplenty if the League is not completed as it has never happened before as far as I know. Not sure about the War years though...... ↡ Advertisement

Spring Moderator March 13, 2020 Author Share March 13, 2020 This news of Arteta and Hudson Odoi being tested positive will surely mean the suspension of EPL. EPL was the slowest to react as La Liga and Seria A had already suspended games n now EPL has one the most infected staff with 3 unconfirmed Leicester players also possibly infected. I suspect Euro will definitely be postponed likely till 2021and the domestic season will be extended to finish the Leagues as otherwise how to settle relegation, promotion, European places etc as $ involved.

Spring Moderator March 13, 2020 Author Share March 13, 2020 Confirm EPL suspended..... https://www.premierleague.com/news/1645173 Following a meeting of Shareholders today, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League with the intention of returning on 4 April, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time. Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: "Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19. "In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority." Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League's aim to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so. In this fast-moving environment, further updates will be provided when appropriate.

Spring Moderator March 20, 2020 Author Share March 20, 2020 Some suggestions on playing out the remainder games were: 1)Playing behind closed doors but this can only be done if the whole team ie playing n non playing staff are ok. Arteta, Hudson-Odoi n several unnamed players were said to hv been infected so if other clubs n their staff get infected then games can't be played. 2)Delaying the start of the new season 2020/21 till this season's games are completed. 3)Scrapping domestic Cup games next season so as to free up dates for games to catch up. There were some novel ideas like penalty shoot outs to settle games, getting a computer programme to predict results based on previous games between the teams etc

The rest of the game for this season push back till next season when all is clear. And play with the fans around. Any ideal that do with this season not complete will be very unfair to many party across all the leagues Edited March 20, 2020 by Beregond

Any ideal that do with this season not complete will be very unfair to many party across all the leagues Quite a good idea I agree that it's more important to finish this season then bother about next. The only drawback with this idea is what about players who are out of contract at end June 2020? If next season is cxl then they could possible be out of work since there is no new season till Aug 2021. Besides the title, what's even more important is the promo/relegation plus the qualification for Euro places as there is a lot of $ and legal issues if the season is uncompleted. ↡ Advertisement
