Jamesc Hypersonic August 8, 2019 Share August 8, 2019 Dear all, newbie here. would like to seek opinion and advise here. i am first time car buyer, found a PI offered 1 time guaranteed COE bidding. after the COE bidding, they unable to secure me a COE due to outbid by last min. 1. is the deal still valid? 2. will there be any compensation i can get if i cancel the deal? Thank you in advance Sensei & senpai here. Guaranteed means you get the car no matter how high COE goes. Do not cancel, do not take back deposit. Get a good lawyer and sue into you get your car. I also booked guaranteed before and COE went up. The salesman ask me to top up. I said you told me chop sign guaranteed will get car. He said he will talk to his manager "to help" me. 5 minutes later he came back said his manager like me and I will get the car. No need to pay more. Lucky his manager like me. If he didn't like me I will sue until he pants drop or I get the car. BTW you don't even need a good lawyer. You have a water tight case. I also want to buy a car from them.
Hotbod 1st Gear August 8, 2019 Share August 8, 2019 Just sharing:I bought the cheapest VW available.. Polo. Comes with g'teed COE with its nett price. One of the reason I chose this over other options because I was assured quick delivery, ready stock, confirm get COE this round. But got outbidded by a couple of dollars because of the last min surge, not enough time to revise bid.Told the SE I wanna back out of the deal and buy something else.. since they didn't fulfil the g'teed COE part and hence delay my car collection. Luckily, he provided a solution by offering courtesy car until new car collection. At least they didn't assume I'd be okay with the situation + provided proper service recovery. Cruzer75 Neutral Newbie August 8, 2019 Share August 8, 2019 It is very fortunate, SE managed to bid the COE yesterday and it is the 1st bidding. From what I see it is a last min revision on the bidding price. Phew.

If black and white say one bid guaranteed COE, they are obliged to give you open cat regardless your car is Cat A. No need to compromise
Jamesc Hypersonic August 8, 2019 Share August 8, 2019 I cannot believe people sign GCOE and ask to cancel the deal. Like that agent should be happy. If COE goes up again if I was agent I will be happy to refund. Really nothing to lose.

So I was considering getting another almost new, used one. Since now I'm offered courtesy car until new car collection + don't need to worry about Cat A further increments.. guess I got the best of both worlds.
Jamesc Hypersonic August 8, 2019 Share August 8, 2019 People here really don't know the law and don't know their rights. If you buy GCOE and they don't get a car for you by the due date you can rent a car and claim back from the agent the rental fees. Please don't think they give you a courtesy car out of kindness of their hearts.
Jamesc Hypersonic August 8, 2019 Share August 8, 2019 Rent a car that is comparable lah. Buy mid range car don't go and rent a Rolls Royce or Ferrari and expect to be reimbursed.

Thank you in advance Sensei & senpai here. A lot of people dont understand what they sign for. Number of bids vs guaranteed/non-guaranteed are 2 different things. 6 bid guaranteed means they will confirm get you a COE within 6 bids, else they must give you open cat, as they guaranteed it. 6 bid non-guaranteed means they will bid 6 times for you, and if don't get COE, they will refund deposit. If you sign for a 1-bid guaranteed, some PI will say it means they will get it within the coming bid, some PI will say "oh we mean we will only bid 1 time, but it can be anytime." PI like to do a play on word, sure. But since your PI promised 1-bid guaranteed, and they did put in a bid but didn't get it, means they didn't fulfil contract of 1-bid guaranteed. However, it means they are still obliged to deliver a car as promise. Legally speaking, it doesn't matter that your SE tried to bid, then end up never get because he got outbid or what, but fact is he didn't fulfil his side of the contract. There is no way you need pull out of this deal. You can either insist on a an open cat COE to be registered to you immediatelt or a courtesy car if you would like a car to drive first. Else, you can ask for certain compensation towards your purchase. At this point it's just how nice you want to be la haha. Even you buy from big AD also might have hiccups de. Heard of ADs who put 6 bid non-guaranteed then first 2 or 3 bids never bid when its low, then end up never get because COE suddenly spike, end refunding deposit. Rare, but I read this case somewhere on this forum when I was researching into whether AD really need to go for guaranteed package.
