steveluv Twincharged September 16, 2019 Author Share September 16, 2019 https://www.theverge.com/2019/9/16/20868071/huawei-mate-30-pro-lite-leaks-promotional-images-evan-blass-renders Huawei’s entire flagship Mate 30 lineup leaks ahead of Thursday launchFour phones with three different notchesBy Jon Porter@JonPorty Sep 16, 2019, 5:16am EDT Days before Huawei is due to reveal its new flagship Mate 30 lineup, launching without Google apps or services on September 19th, promotional images of four of the upcoming devices appear to have leaked online. The images were shared by leaker Evan Blass, and show off what he claims is the new Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, Mate 30 Lite, and what appears to be a Porsche Design edition of one of the new handsets. At the top of the lineup is the Mate 30 Pro. The images suggest the phone will be equipped with a wide notch at the top of the device and a display that curves around the left and right sides of the phone like Oppo’s “waterfall screen” seen on Vivo’s new Nex 3. On the back we can see the familiar Leica branding along with four sensors that are contained within a circular camera cutout. One cryptic tweet suggested that these will consist of a pair of 40-megapixel sensors, an 8-megapixel sensor, and a time-of-flight sensor. There also appears to be two signal strength indicators on the top left of the screen, suggesting there’ll be a dual-SIM version of the device. The Mate 30 Pro could have a screen that curves sharply around the edges of the device. Image: @EVLeaks The phone’s rear sensors appear to be contained within a circular cutout. Image: @EVLeaks In comparison to the Pro, the regular Mate 30 appears to have a much smaller display notch, which MSPowerUser speculates could be because this model includes fewer sensors for face unlock. Dual-SIM functionality also appears to be on the cards for this model. We’re still waiting on images of the back of the device to reveal the rear cameras. Both the Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 are expected to use Huawei’s new Kirin 990 chipset, which has a variant that includes a built-in 5G modem. A 5G signal indicator is clearly visible on the image of the Mate 30, indicating that there could be a 5G-equipped model of this handset. The regular Mate 30 looks to have a smaller notch and no curved display. Image: @EVLeaks The Mate 30 Lite has a very different design from its two siblings, with a hole-punch camera cutout on the front, a square camera array on its rear, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. In a follow-up tweet Blass said that the phone is the same as the Nova 5i Pro, which was announced back in July, and which uses a less powerful Kirin 810 chipset. The Mate 30 Lite is allegedly the same as Huawei’s Nova 5i Pro that it announced back in July. Image: @EVLeaks Finally, there’s the Porsche Design edition of the Mate 30 Pro, which appears to add a leather covering to the rear of the phone. Blass shared renders of the handset in black and red. The Porsche Design edition appears to have the same curved display as the Mate 30 Pro. Image: @EVLeaksThe rear of the phone has a combined leather and glass construction. Image: @EVLeaks Away from the design of the phones, the more pressing aspect of these devices will be their software. Recently, Google announced that the lineup will not be able to launch with official Google apps, thanks to the USA’s ongoing ban on companies doing business with Huawei without a license. As well as not having access to Google’s first-party apps, the move also means the phones won’t have access to services like the Play Store, the primary source of Android apps. Although Huawei’s previous phones have been able to function without the Play Store in China for years now, it will be much harder to convince Android users in Europe — where Huawei had been gobbling up market share — to buy a phone without easy access to the operating system’s primary app store. There’s no official word on pricing for the new Mate devices. For that, we’ll have to wait until they’re unveiled in Munich on Thursday.

Stooky 6th Gear September 19, 2019 Share September 19, 2019 (edited) Interesting read from xda. The reason why we can sideload Google apps and services on export set phones from China like Xiaomi because they pre-load some stub apk in the software. If the stub is not present in Mate 30, u must root in order to sideload. But then Huawei doesn't allow bootloader to be unlocked so u can't root. Mockngbrd Supersonic September 20, 2019 Share September 20, 2019 (edited) No google apps = Totally pointless and as good as dead. Even if can sideload, the hassle and potential problems that might occur with no official support will be enough to turn most buyers away. It will be like last time when Nokia had some really nice Lumia phones with nice specs and design but running Microsoft OS. Mate 30 is the new Lumia phone. = Edited September 20, 2019 by Mockngbrd

1fast1 Supersonic September 21, 2019 Share September 21, 2019 Right now, the consensus from those AMDK who've had time with the device seems to be that sideloading will *not* work with the Mate 30. This is also what the Huawei boss said. He also said he is thinking of unlocking the bootloader (to allow root) so people can try their own hacks but that just shows he's basically helpless here. Sideloading Google Mobile Services may have worked on the P30 Pro but that wasn't a "new device" as per the entity list. The Mate 30 Pro is definitely a new device and it's the first to have the full force of Trump's ban enforced on it. Google not only legally cannot cooperate with Huawei, it must actively prevent its services from being used unofficially. They may go to a certified device model or whatever. Believe me, Google can outsmart any small time hacker and lock down any vulnerability. It's not that Google wants this. They have to obey Trump. Oh, and Trump hates liberal tech companies like Google anyway, so he's fine if they lose business.
1fast1 Supersonic September 21, 2019 Share September 21, 2019 13 hours ago, Angcheek said: i heard there was many sites that can get many Apps too. That's called sideloading. You download the apk from a website, allow installation from "unknown sources" and get the app. You have no playstore support, but the app will work. See my post. It's highly unlikely this workaround will work for the most important apps. There will also be no integration, so apps that need Maps like Grab etc. won't be able to access them I think. For me, as much as I love Huawei's tech, the Trump ban makes it pointless. ↡ Advertisement
