Why the need to play musical chairs?

NTUC replacing Giant.

NTUC started out for the average Joe and that is why it was name FairPrice.

Unfortunately, many items are not at all FairPrice when compared to the other supermarkets like Giant and even Cold Storage.

Why is NTUC crowding and cornering all types of business? NTUC regardless of what you must have privilege for many things they do. They must compete with 7-11 (Cheers), funeral services, medical services, insurance services, auto services, taxi, Kopitam (eaten up by NTUC) including supermarket and many more. Honestly, how does our local SME going to compete with a company that has government backing and deep pockets?

Over the years things are getting so bad, that local are even fighting over providing "taxi" services.

Literally we have become Singapore Inc.

When you become big you want to become very big and to a certain extent blind to other people eking out a survival , only private ones are now Giant , Sheng Shiong and to a certain extent Mustafa and a few other ( I heard China Chinese running some small supermarkets around doing ‘laundry’ biz actually , though I don’t know if it’s true) ...... gone are the corner provision shop or Mama shops ..... anyways who are we to complain .... the whole developed world is moving like that ..... look at Amazon..... the staff inside work like slaves literally

I didn't know Amazon staff work like slaves.

Now I know I will do something about it.

Buy some Amazon shares.

If they are paying slave wages then their profits should be quite good.

:D

These are the type of companies to buy shares in.

Giant seemed to pulling back.

There's one at Yishun, now replaced by U-stars.

I don't really want to step into Giant most of the time.

It's quite comical. They will put one type of fresh milk on promotion while the others are nett price. And if u don't want to drink that brand, good luck. Every single time i go there, it's always like that. Gave up.

When u go NTUC, there are like 5 different brands on promotion for 2 x 1L.

And all their supermarkets looks like it's out of the 90s. It's like Sheng Shiong but without Sheng Shiong pricing.

Give up on them.

No need public listing.

It's a cooperative, meaning already own by people. All union members actually get paid with dividends.

Except listed holdings shareholders can buy more shares Coop members cannot buy more shares.

They have been bleeding since took over Shop N Save.

Vivo city definitely was the most revenue generating outlet. Probably let go due to lease renewal.

Giant also let go of Grandstand.

Now taken over by Hao Mart

I was at Jurong xtra and that’s big

So if this one is bigger, that’s going to be very interesting

I like the various concepts but I’ll stay away this weekend

Too bad it closes at 11pm

I don't understand all these supermarkets getting bigger and bigger and becoming hypermarkets.

With online surely less people are going to the supermarkets.

You want to buy a 10 kg bag of rice you drive to the supermarket find a parking lot buy the 10 kg rice

carry it to the car park and lift it into your boot.

Drive home and carry the 10 kg of rice from the car and  up all the way to your flat with all the other

bags of groceries.

Might as well have it delivered.

So if more people are buying online who need gigantic space hypermarkets?

Beside to just walk around to enjoy the aircon on a hot day of course.

Actually have to do with location of these supermarkets.

Grandstand surrounding all pvt properties. Parents send kids there for sports.

If rental is low and consistent foot traffic then make sense.

Its Hao Mart 1st venture to mega mart.

The rest all mini mart format.

Miss the Turf City one. Free parking, no crowd and has the big bottles of distilled water not available in the smaller former Shop n Save outlets.
