The grade with benzene is higher octane & reduces knocking, but rather costly by their standard, hence, not many stations have it. Even those with the roadside signage can sometimes leave the benzine pumps empty because of low demand for it.

Your pump attendant's "no benzene" could be reassuring you that he/she's not giving u the more expensive fuel.

um ...benzene is already banned in gasoline for quite a while

carcinogenic

xylenes and toluene i think still ok

😬

I usually pump at PTT in Thai.

They do sell Gasoline 95 at a premium to E10 (which I think is due to the petrol tax structure to support use of biopetrol)

It's a pure gasoline (ethanol content max of 5% iirc) with octane rating of 95. It incurs higher govt tax thus the higher price

it's the yellow pump handle in the middle.

Shell doesn't seem to have an equivalent https://www.shell.co.th/en_th/motorists/shell-fuels/shell-fuel-prices.html

PTG has a fuel called Benzene 95 http://www.ptgenergy.co.th/en/product-fuel.php

Thanks for helping to explain & clarify.  You & I are part of a small handful of S'poreans who dared to drive our SG vehicles to Thailand &  I believe in using the best grade for my vehicle where available.

@Adrianli Great write up... I was googling how to drive to Thailand and it bring me to this page!.

Wanted to make trip again to just only Hatyai.... wanted to do Bangkok but no co-driver, will be too tired.

Drove to Hatyai before 5 years ago. That time when I reached Changlun, nearing to border, I already saw the traffic queue at MY immigration, I quickly diverted to Perlis Padang besar, though its about 30mins diversion but the traffic there was smooth and almost empty.
