All these explosions don't worry me.

I will happily get one for my MIL.

Even better if it has an electric chair inside.

They should put these chargers at fast food and hawker centre car parks.

Go for lunch or a coffee while your car is charged.

Shell thinks they are service station operators but what they are are actually energy providers.

So a charging point in a car park is all they need.

No need to buy or rent a big piece of land to build a service station.

Just pay car park operators to install the charging points.

:D

Still in yesterday's world and use yesterday's thinking.

:D

Having said this.

You don't need to be Shell to get a piece of the electric car charging market.

If I was one of the 11 energy suppliers like Koppol or iSwitchOff or whoever I will be looking into this market opportunity.

These idiots in boardrooms probably haven't even thought about this yet.

They are probably thinking Wah 11 competitors so many how to make money?

:D

Jaguar i-pace with 90kwh battery will cost $49.50 from 0 to 90.

Its WLTP range is 470km.  Let's discount by 20% to 376km.

Cost/km => $0.13/km.

BMW X3 M40 combined cycle of 13.2L/100km (Including loading of 20% from possible understatement) will cost $0.34/km (with RON98 after 20% discount) or $0.3/km (with RON95 after 20% discount).

Road tax difference:

Jaguar i-pace: $5,702

BMW X3 M40: $2,384

To breakeven the roadtax difference, need to drive at least $19,500km/year.

It is strange that Shell is promoting electric car as it makes a lot of money selling petrol and diesel. Our electricity is generated mostly from natural gas that is not supplied by Shell.

Shell has been a pioneer in liquefied natural gas (LNG) for more than 50 years. For the last 2 decade, Shell has been selling the oil process asset worldwide. Shell has proven to go green and this is their corporate's objective.

Like it or not, the world is turning to electric vehicle (EV) for the next 6 years. Northern Europe will lead the rest of the world.

Contrary to this, our comfort taxi and PHV also aggressively turning to hybrid or electric vehicle today. As long as LTA support, majority will succumb to the demand. I would think the EV will be cheaper as technology improves.

"The British manufacturer chose Singapore because of its proximity to “high-growth markets” in Asia, the chief executive, Jim Rowan, said in a memo to staff on Tuesday. The plant will be completed in 2020, with the car to be launched in 2021"

Even small users are buying power at 18 cents per kWh. Big users even cheaper. 55 cents is pure profiteering at almost 3 time the cost. . And shell is not govt hor.

Home charging pod i think cost about $5k.

Since this is DC fast charging, the charging station could be from $30k.

SP Power DC charger around 50cents.

It takes 30 min average to charge the car.

Can you imagine if there are more EV and all want to charge at the same time.?

The petrol station will become more like a parking lot.

And people will just leave their car there and go shopping, and come back hours later.

Hey, what a wonderful idea. Your car gets charged and you get free parking.

Don't understand Shell business model in Singapore for EV charging, the charging point has to be in home / work, food center or shopping centre. Battery swap station can work too but all EV cars will need to use standard battery, which is not possible at this point in time till this is commoditized. Maybe they think 3 mins charging is coming?
