Volkswagen 1500 Notchback

(apologies for the poor quality, pic taken many years back when camera/skill was not so good)

This is the 1961 - 1965 Volkswagen Typ 3 Notchback (aka 1500 / 1600 Limousine)

Fun fact about the "Pancake" and "Suitcase" engine:

The initial VW Typ 3 engine was 1.5L (1493 cc) unit based on the air-cooled 1192 cc flat-4 found in the Typ 1 (Beetle), but with longer stroke of 69mm, it form the basis for the 1300 cc and 1600 cc engines that followed in the later Beetle and Volkswagen Typ 2 (Kombi / Transporter / T1 / T2). While the long block remained the same as Typ 1 engine, the engine cooling system was redesigned by putting the fan on one end of the crankshaft instead of on the generator. This reduced the height of the engine profile, allowed greater cargo volume, and earned the nicknames of “Pancake” or “Suitcase” engine. The engine’s displacement was eventually increased to 1.6L (1584 cc).

The 3 Door version would be much rarer and I don't think there are many in ASEAN countries.

Not necessary an ex-SAF vehicle, as this 2nd Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (906) was sold locally to member of public and transport operators as well. Some of the variant sold here includes:

You can convert the boots after folding rear seat into a bed in ECP car park.

It was years ago that bro Tianmo and I went together to try out this combo at harvest.

It was a 1.8l unit though.
