sounds about spot on as the original S series ended with SY (no SZ as that was for rentals) around 1970/1971 or thereabouts and the E series then started ..

IICR, S series did not end with SY. It went on to SQ and ended with SE. After SE, came the E series and then SBA...

I am quite sure of SQ and SE. I remember a friend's business partner bid for SQ2 and the cars I drove for work were SE plated. The model below.

A colleague bought his Mazda car (model below) was SE plate too.

@Mooose I remember having seen the plate but can't remember where. I also don't know how many time the number had changed hands as the original owner had passed on.

It all depends. One of my wife's colleague's cars are having the 4x4 number plate. They are Chinese staying in landed property.
